About Dr. Olivia Chukwuma
Dr. Chukwuma is an Ivy League-educated, board-certified dermatologist who specializes in general, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She is an honors graduate of Cornell University, where she studied biological sciences and was awarded the prestigious Cornell Tradition fellowship, in recognition of her outstanding academic and extracurricular achievements. Dr. Chukwuma went on to attend medical school at the University of Florida College of Medicine, during which time she completed a research fellowship in cutaneous oncology and graduated with special distinction in research. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed academic journals, has co-authored multiple textbook chapters in dermatology, and has been selected to present her work at regional, national, and international medical conferences.
Dr. Chukwuma received extensive training in all aspects of dermatology during her residency at the University of Texas Medical Branch. She continued to demonstrate academic excellence as a dermatology resident, consistently scoring among the top examinees nationwide on the standardized in-service exams in each year of residency. She further served as Chief Resident in her final year, during which time she planned the residency program’s academic curriculum and regularly gave academic lectures to her co-residents. As a Florida native, Dr. Chukwuma is excited to return to the Tampa Bay area where she completed her transitional year internship prior to residency.
Dr. Chukwuma has expertise in diagnosing and treating a wide range of dermatologic conditions among all skin types in children and adults, ranging from acne, psoriasis, eczema, and skin cancer, to more complex dermatologic conditions and aesthetic concerns. She is dedicated to providing the highest quality of dermatologic care with her thorough, compassionate, and individualized approach. Dr. Chukwuma further tailors treatment plans to align with each patient’s unique concerns and goals of care.

Dr. Chukwuma is my first dermatologist, and I could not be more grateful for my experience with her. I intentionally searched for a Black female doctor because I have often left medical appointments feeling unheard or unresolved. With Dr. Chukwuma, I felt the complete opposite — listened to, respected, and cared for.
She took my concerns seriously, treated a painful cyst on my bikini line with care and professionalism, and helped me get back on my birth control without requiring an unnecessary appointment. She trusted that I know my body and my skin, which made all the difference.
Since prioritizing a Black and POC care team, my healthcare experience has been amazing, and Dr. Chukwuma is a big reason why. She is knowledgeable, compassionate, and truly patient-centered. I am thankful for the care she provides and highly recommend her to anyone seeking a dermatologist who listens and delivers excellent care.
