About Dr. Omkar Marathe

As a lifelong Southern Californian, Dr. Omkar Marathe earned his bachelor’s degree in neurosciences from UCLA (graduating with honors) and his M.D. degree from the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. He trained in internal medicine at Scripps Green Hospital in San Diego and returned to Los Angeles to complete his fellowship in hematology/oncology at the UCLA-Olive View-Cedars Sinai program, where he had the opportunity to train in a wide array of clinical settings ranging from a county hospital to a tertiary academic center. He has conducted research and published papers in various disciplines of oncology including ocular melanoma and HER2+ breast cancer. Dr. Marathe is a fan of Los Angeles sports teams and also enjoys playing tennis, running, and traveling with his wife in his spare time. Dr. Marathe is fluent in Spanish, Marathi, and Hindi. Dr. Marathe has a solid foundation in hematology/oncology, as exemplified by his perfect score on the Oncology In-Training exam. He also strives to stay up-to-date in order to provide his patients with comprehensive and cutting-edge treatment. He is passionate about the importance of being a team player in oncology, collaborating closely with primary care physicians and other specialists, and having an open avenue of communication with patients as well as their families and loved ones. Training in an era where patients have ready access to medical knowledge, he is eager to educate patients about their disease process and individualized treatment options in order to empower them to actively participate in their management plan. He is also highly sensitive to the religious, cultural, and personal values of his patients.
