About Oriana Santarelli
Oriana Santarelli, PA, received her Bachelor's of Health Science and Master's in Physician Assistant Studies from Mercy College. She worked as a medical assistant in gastroenterology and volunteered as a physical therapist assistant. During her didactic year in PA school, Oriana provided care on a medical mission trip and at a preschool. After graduating, she began her career at NYP Hospital in surgery but later chose to focus on prevention, patient education, and building relationships with patients.
She is currently a medical Spanish adjunct professor at Mercy College. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and practicing yoga. Oriana has also received her Lifestyle and Wellness Coaching Certification from the Harvard Medical School Executive Education program.

While knowledgeable, it felt like the provider was more interested in getting me to run multiple tests than it was about my health. I’ve been around the block a few times with insurance and providers and there was little interest in trying to get the requested tests covered by insurance and an insistence on pushing for paying for things out of pocket.

The visit felt rushed, which limited the thorough review of allergy test results, lack of acknowledgment and empathy. After my allergy testing, two additional wheal-and-flare reactions were initially attributed to the control site without close examination. Only after I pushed were the reactions confirmed as sensitivities which is wild. The problem isn’t the PA, the problem is the system that the PA is operating under. A system that supports clinicians with adequate time per patient would ensure thorough evaluations, accurate results, and patient trust in the care provided. Medical Offices of Manhattan needs to do better.

My experience with Ms. Santarelli was disappointing. She told me my weight is “unhealthy.” That might be true, expect that neither her or her staff ever took my weight or asked me to get on a scale. Please do better. The service was incomplete.

The PA was was good and knowledgeable. They couldn’t treat the rash I had since they couldn’t pinpoint the cause, but it was understandable. However, they seem rather incentivized to upsell on services, which leaves a very distasteful feeling. When asked about if the procedure/ services are normal scope, they indicated that the procedures are covered by insurance. It’s ok to say that you don’t know, but it’s not ok say it’s covered just to upsell. My insurance is a very standard company package from large insurance provider.

I asked Oriana Santarelli about 2 things: getting a refill of my prescription deodorant & to get brith control. She looked at me like I had 3 heads when I said the words prescription deodorant & had never heard of it/wasnt sure what it was, asked why i needed it, how ive gotten it before & said she would need to look into it with no follow up. Then I asked to get birth control & she said she didnt feel comfortable giving out recommendations or doing anything regarding birth control, then went on to say she specializes in weight lose. I then said I want the pill & know the brand I want i just need you to write me a prescription & she again said that's something she just couldnt do. So she left & it was clear i wouldnt be getting brith control today & also assumed it was a no the the prescription deodorant as there was never a follow up. Quite literally the worst experience ive had at the doctors. i was not listened to & didnt get either of the two things i literally to the doctors for.

I had a great experience overall and old death members were friendly and accommodating.
One suggestion could be to have the patient pre-fill the forms and insurance details prior to the visit as it takes another 15 minutes before you can meet the doctor upon arrival, although this is often the case with any Medical Office.

The PA did not actually listen to me when I was discussing my symptoms, but rather went in with her own preconceived notion of what was wrong and continued to prescribe tests and medications based on her assumptions rather than listening which caused me to continue to be overly anxious and stressed when going in. The office does not make the same follow up appointments that the PA says will be made. Does not review the patient's chart before seeing the patient for the follow up exam. Such an unpleasant the initial visit and follow up.
