What should a new client know about working with you?

When we meet, your time is truly your time. I believe good psychiatric care starts with listening. You will have the time and space to tell your story, ask questions, and discuss your concerns without feeling rushed, judged, dismissed, or ignored. My role is not simply to prescribe medication or tell you what to do. My role is to guide you through your options. I will explain the evidence-based treatment choices available to you, including medication management when appropriate, and discuss the potential benefits, risks, side effects, and alternatives so you can make an informed decision. We make treatment decisions together. I will provide my clinical recommendations and professional guidance, but ultimately, you remain in control of your care. My goal is for you to understand your options, feel heard and respected, and leave each visit knowing why we chose a particular treatment plan and what comes next.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Our first visit is about understanding the whole picture, not rushing to a prescription. I take time to listen to what brought you in, review your symptoms, medical and psychiatric history, previous treatments and medications, and understand what you hope to achieve from treatment. From there, I explain what I believe may be going on and walk you through the evidence-based treatment options available. When medication is appropriate, we discuss the choices, expected benefits, potential side effects, risks, alternatives, and what to expect before you decide how you would like to proceed. Treatment is a collaborative process. At follow-up visits, we review what is improving, what is not, any side effects or concerns, and adjust the plan when necessary. I provide the clinical guidance and recommendations, but you remain an active participant and ultimately in control of your care.
