More about Parker Nelson, RD, MS
I grew up as a competitive dancer, which instilled in me a passion for sport performance and health. From a young age, I recognized a wide gap in nutrition resources and information for athletes. This sparked a personal interest in nutrition, leading to many Google searches, experimentation with foods, and dieting. Unfortunately, what began as an innocent pursuit of performance and health optimization ended in weight struggles, body dysmorphia, and anxiety around food.
It wasn't my fault that I didn't know where to find accurate nutrition information. Dieting is deeply ingrained in our culture and appears in all forms of media, conversations with friends, and even in the doctor's office. No one warns about the negative effects of extreme dieting. Yet, we know dieting is a multibillion-dollar industry because 95% of all diets fail, creating repeat customers. And so the cycle continues.
With nutrition misinformation more prevalent than ever, evidence-based voices have become harder to find. It is almost impossible for consumers to navigate fact versus fiction.
I knew something needed to change, so I pursued nutrition as my career and became a registered dietitian. I earned my Bachelor's degree from Azusa Pacific University, a Master's in Nutrition from the University of New England, and certificates from Bauman College and the National Academy of Sports Medicine. My professional experiences span many areas of dietetics, through which I developed a strong clinical background. While I loved every area of nutrition and fitness I've worked in, I realized I wanted more-I wanted to help others solve the same problems close to my heart. I knew I could make a greater impact by integrating my passions into my work, but I'd need my own private practice to do so.
In August 2022, I started Nutrition by Emma. Through coaching and education, I empower my clients to leave fad diets behind and transform their health sustainably.
