Ricky Bass, MD has been providing primary care for adults and children for more than 20 years in the Shreveport Bossier area. He completed med school and residency in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics at LSUHSC Shreveport and returned as a faculty member in 2003 after spending 4 years in Kentucky at both the University of Kentucky and University of Louisville. Dr. Bass is board certified in both Internal Medicine & Pediatrics. At LSUHSC he was actively involved in patient care, education and research. He served as Medical Director for Partners in Wellness, the screening program for the Feist Weiller Cancer Center and had a practice that focused on cancer survivors. Dr. Bass additionally received a Masters in Public Health from Johns Hopkins and Masters in Instructional Design from the University of Kentucky. He served as Program Director for the training program leading to dual eligibility for certification in both Internal Medicine & Pediatrics and has been an educator over his entire career. He has trained a large number of physicians practicing in the Shreveport Bossier community as well as Northwest Louisiana. Dr. Bass had significant administrative roles at LSUHSC as well. He was the first Chief Medical Information Officer for LSUHSC where he was responsible for the implementation the electronic medical records system and other technology while balancing patient safety, fiscal, and operational concerns that arise out of use of such practice changing technology. Dr. Bass also made significant research contributions obtaining funding from the National Cancer Institute, the American Cancer Society, the Health Services and Research Administration and numerous pharmaceutical companies. He served as chair of the Institutional Review Board ensuring protections of research subjects as well as the Institutional Official Designee, overseeing clinical aspects of LSUHSC’s research program.
