Dr. Patricia Gerber is a native of Racine, Wisconsin. She earned a B.A. in Biology at Macalester College in St. Paul, Minnesota and received her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wisconsin. She completed an internship and residency in Pediatrics at Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio. Subsequently, Dr. Gerber attended the University of Tennessee Center for the Health Sciences in Memphis, Tennessee for pediatric allergy/immunology and adult rheumatology fellowships. She completed an additional fellowship in pediatric immunology and rheumatology at Northwestern University in Chicago, Illinois. During her fellowships, Dr. Gerber performed basic science research examining immune deficiencies and their relationship to the purine pathway and platelet and complement function in juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Dr. Gerber served as an Assistant Professor at Duke University Medical Center and was Associate Professor of Medicine and Allergy Fellowship Director at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina. Dr. Gerber is board-certified in both Pediatrics and Allergy and Immunology. She has also completed initial board certification in Pediatric Rheumatology. Dr. Gerber has been active in the community, participating in the organization of asthma camps in North Carolina and South Carolina, and serving as consultant for the school nurse monitoring program for high-risk asthmatics and President of the local chapter of the American Lung Association in Greenville. Since moving to the Charleston area in 2002, she has practiced medicine at National Allergy, Asthma, and Urticaria Centers with interests in hives, atopic dermatitis, asthma, sinus problems, and recurrent infections due to immunodeficiencies. Dr. Gerber and her husband have been married 26 years and have a college-bound son and two unruly dachshunds.
