Getting to know Dr. Patrick Casey

I am a licensed clinical psychologist with over 25 years of experience providing psychotherapy across a wide range of settings, including private practice, outpatient clinics, inpatient psychiatry, neurorehabilitation units, and long-term care facilities. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science and a Master’s Degree from Roosevelt University in Chicago. I work with adolescents and adults (ages 13 and up), offering both individual and couples therapy, available in-person or virtually based on client preference.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I welcome and honor the diverse backgrounds, identities, and experiences that each client brings to therapy. My goal is to build a strong therapeutic alliance by cultivating a safe, supportive, and culturally respectful environment. I believe that clients are the true experts of their inner lives, and I work collaboratively with them to explore their strengths, challenges, and goals. My approach is holistic, client-centered, and eclectic, drawing from a range of evidence-based techniques tailored to each individual. These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Mindfulness, Positive Psychology, and Gestalt Therapy.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Therapy with me is a collaborative process rooted in empathy, respect, and empowerment. From the beginning, we work together to co-create a treatment plan based on your goals, and we revisit and adjust it as needed throughout the course of therapy. Sessions may focus on processing emotions, exploring patterns of thought and behavior, building coping strategies, or deepening self-awareness, depending on your unique needs. I specialize in addressing a wide range of concerns including trauma/PTSD, anxiety, panic disorders, LGBTQIA+ issues, gender dysphoria, depression, grief, end-of-life challenges, bipolar disorder, cultural identity, the impact of prejudice and microaggressions, and relationship or life transitions.
