In collaboration with geneticists from University of British Columbia and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center, Dr. Long started to conceptualize how tools can be built, utilized, and integrated into a physicians’ practice workflow for the benefit of hastening the diagnostic journey for complex patients. While Dr. Long completed his fellowship in Medical Biochemical Genetics at the Children’s Hospital of Colorado, he partnered with UnX, a management services organization focused on identifying rare disease patients while capturing the objective and subjective value of whole genome sequencing in adult patient populations. Together, they began developing clinical and non-clinical assessments, as part of a suite of decision support tools, to identify those patients who could benefit from genetic testing and to capture the value of genetic testing for these patients. Utilizing the decision support tools developed with UnX, SequenceMD opened its doors in Denver, Colorado to adult patients with remarkable clinical presentations and their providers seeking diagnostic clarity.
