Getting to know Dr. Paula Maggie Dancel
Sex is often a topic met with secrecy, embarrassment, shame, or judgment. Thus, we aim to create a safe, open environment to address various relational and sexual concerns (e.g., lack of intimacy, infidelity, erectile dysfunction, "excessive masturbation") with individuals of diverse sexual orientations, genders, ethnicities, and kinks. You should be able to have the sex you desire! We also welcome individuals with concerns related to depression, anxiety, trauma, stress, self-esteem, life transitions, employment, communication, assertiveness, and family dynamics.
I will spend time setting your goals for therapy and assessing factors that may be contributing to current problems. I utilize various evidence-based techniques to provide guidance and feedback that may lead to a solution or an "aha moment." I take pride in being a source of unconditional support for you during the therapeutic process and beyond. I look forward to speaking with you about how I can help!
*It is important to mention that you may be referred to another therapist at the practice based on availability. There are in-person and Zoom sessions available. The practice does NOT accept any insurance but does provide a superbill for out-of-network benefits. Sliding scale is also possible.

Dr. Dancel is incredible. I have seen various therapists over time, and none have been as effective. She is reliable, knowledgable, trustworthy, and I know she is always there if something comes up between sessions. I've never felt as comfortable or have let myself be so vulnerable speaking to other therapists. Dr. Dancel is candid, direct -- and lets me vent while knowing when and where to step in, and what we need to focus on. She always remembers details from sessions, no matter how long ago it was discussed (including things that I've forgotten!). She will give "homework" that is relevant to my journey and will hold me accountable to help me progress towards my goals. She speaks with my psychiatrist as needed to ensure there's alignment on my treatment plan. Overall, I cannot put into words how lucky I feel to have found her, and can't imagine how I would have navigated the last few years without her guidance.

Dr. Dancel is thoughtful, compassionate, and easy to talk to, and her advice has helped me to navigate many life decisions. Something that always impressed me about Dr. Dancel is how she really listens to everything you say each session and keeps it in mind when she's offering advice. I've been seeing her for about two years and she remembers things I've said in session 1. I liked that she challenged my thought patterns, but I never felt judged. Highly recommend.

Dr. Dancel is an excellent therapist. I have been going to her for about 18 months and have been able to work through difficulties relating to self belief, confidence and shame during the time together. She has been thoughtful but also unafraid to challenge me; which in turn has helped me grow immensely. I would highly recommend her!

I am an adult survivor of childhood trauma, but having only sought help later in life I have been amazed at what Dr. Paula Maggie Dancel has been able to help me overcome. I have recovered confidence I thought all but destroyed, and I have begun to correct negative patterns of thinking and behavior I never thought possible. In a word, Hope. That’s what my sessions with her have helped to restore.

I have been seeing Dr. Dancel for about a year now, and she has helped improve my quality of life significantly over that time. The progress I have been able to achieve related to my interpersonal relationships has been astounding, and I credit much of the improvement to her. Dr. Dancel is pleasant to work with, non-judgmental, and able work through the nuances of my issues at a very granular level. We also discuss non-relationship/sexual issues, which helps me work through other rough patches that come up in my life.

I have been seeing Dr. Dancel for therapy for the past 2 years and would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a therapist. Dr. Dancel is extremely empathetic, supportive, non-judgmental, bright, and intuitive and has truly made such a positive impact on my life. Dr. Dancel takes an action-oriented approach to therapy which I love because I felt like there were clear steps/work I could take/do that could help improve my mental health. Dr. Dancel has helped me to manage difficult interpersonal/work relationships, improve my self worth/esteem, and overall feel more joy in my day to day life. I've been seeing Dr. Dancel for therapy for the past four years and she had helped me work through various areas in my life that I have struggled with for so long. From assertiveness, managing anxiety, to interpersonal relationships, I am always learning in session. She is professional, empathetic and a great support when I really needed it. I feel understood and listened to when meeting with Dr. Dancel. I am happy to have found her years ago because I definitely see the improvement in my life from working with her.

Dr. Dancel has been an incredibly supportive, non-judgemental, and thoughtful guide for accepting and exploring my sexuality in relationships and intimacy. In our year and a half together she has helped me move past unhealthy self-perception and past trauma to build the confidence to enjoy healthier and more fulfilling relationships with people I care about.
She is also willing to continuously re-assess and change our approach and language in our sessions together, allowing them to evolve and fit to my own learnings and changes in lifestyle and goals.

She truly gets to the root of the issue and always makes you feel comfortable and safe. She is extremely encouraging and I always leave every session feeling better than before. She is willing to work with you through many different tactics and changes her approach whenever she feels we would make more progress differently. Queer woman of color here. I've been seeing Dr. Maggie Dancel for almost a year and a half now, and only wish I started seeing her sooner.
Since this was my first time going to therapy, I was somewhat skeptical about it at first. I grew up learning to internalize things so being able to communicate how I feel just wasn't my forte. Thankfully Maggie's been able to cultivate a safe space for me to truly open up, while also giving me full support throughout major life transitions that I was, and still am, going through.
Maggie is a straight shooter and doesn't really toy with sugar coating things, which allow our sessions to be super productive. I honestly do not know how I was able to go through a divorce, start a new job and move across the country during a pandemic (lol WILD) without her guidance to look at life through a newer, more positive perspective.
I'm finally living life as my truest self. And while it can be somewhat uncomfortable at times, at least it's authentic and real. These days, I actually get excited thinking about what the future holds--and I have Maggie to thank for helping me get to this point and see this as a brand new start.

I have been working with Dr. Dancel for more than four years. I honestly cannot say enough about how much I appreciate the help, guidance and support she has provided.
When I started seeing Dr. Dancel, I was a train wreck. I was depressed, anxious and dealing with a laundry list of issues from years gone by. Dr. Dancel developed and updated my treatment plan (as needed) and we worked through it during the past four plus years. It is the first time I can honestly say I am happy. Dr. Dancel is a phenomenal psychologist and I highly recommend her!

Dr. Maggie Dancel is a therapist who works with you to address the painful obstacles preventing you from living a healthy and fulfilling life. I have been a patient of Dr. Dancel for almost three and a half years. Within that time, I have noticed a complete transformation. I started out as someone who struggled to articulate the pain of my past and current circumstances, to someone fully capable of identifying the toxic situations and relationships taxing me, with an unwavering determination to effectively confront them head on. Dr. Dancel has helped me address issues ranging from unhealthy family relations, depression derived from unfulfilling employment, to sexuality and the pursuit of achieving and maintaining healthy romantic relationships. I still have a lot to work on, and I am confident that with the guidance and support of Dr. Dancel, that I will continue to make the changes I need to live a better and more fulfilling life.
