What should a new client know about working with you?

I’m a board-certified Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) with a strong foundation in acute and critical care, bringing over 12 years of experience as an Acute Care Adult-Geriatric Nurse Practitioner. I graduated from UCSF and have worked in a high-acuity Level II Trauma center, managing complex surgical, trauma, and critical care cases. I completed my postgraduate Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner training at UC Davis, allowing me to integrate holistic, evidence-based mental health care with an understanding of how physical health and acute stressors impact emotional well-being. When we work together, expect a compassionate, collaborative, and non-judgmental space where you feel truly heard and respected. I take time in the first session to listen deeply to your story, concerns, and goals—whether you’re dealing with anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, ADHD, or challenges related to medical conditions or life transitions. My approach combines medication management (when appropriate), supportive therapy elements, and practical strategies tailored to your unique needs. I value building trust quickly so you leave sessions feeling empowered, understood, and equipped with clear next steps. Many of my patients appreciate my background in acute care, as it helps me address overlapping physical and mental health issues thoughtfully. I’m here to support you at your pace—whether this is your first step toward mental health care or you’re seeking a new provider. I’m grateful you’ve taken this brave step and look forward to partnering with you on your journey.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

When you book an appointment with me through Zocdoc, here’s what you can typically expect from our work together: 1. Booking and Onboarding — After scheduling, you’ll receive confirmation from Zocdoc. I’ll add you to my Headway portal right away (this is the platform that handles your insurance verification and billing for in-network care). You’ll create a quick Headway account if needed and verify your insurance details— this usually takes just a few minutes and helps ensure everything is set for covered sessions. Feel free to reach out if you have questions during this step. 2. Initial Comprehensive Evaluation (First Session) — Our first meeting (typically 45–60 minutes, often via secure telehealth) is focused on truly understanding you. I’ll listen to your story, current concerns, symptoms, timeline, medical history, and any past treatments. With my background in acute/critical care (including Level II Trauma and surgical/trauma settings) and psychiatric specialization, I pay close attention to how physical health, stress, or medical conditions may intersect with your mental health. We’ll discuss goals, complete any necessary assessments (including safety if relevant), and explore options like medication management, supportive strategies, lifestyle adjustments, or referrals. 3. Personalized Treatment Plan — Together, we’ll create a clear, collaborative plan tailored to your needs—whether that’s starting or adjusting medications, incorporating evidence-based approaches for anxiety, depression, trauma, mood disorders, or other challenges, and setting realistic milestones. I emphasize empowerment, so you’ll leave with a sense of direction and partnership. 4. Follow-Up Sessions — Ongoing appointments (usually 15–30 minutes for med management or longer if including therapy elements) are goal-oriented. We’ll review progress, track what’s working, address side effects or barriers, and adjust as needed. I aim for steady, sustainable improvement while being flexible.
