I am a psychiatrist with 26 years of experience in mental health practice. I earned my Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from King George's Medical University. I successfully completed my residency in adult psychiatry at the Harvard South Shore Psychiatry Residency Training Program in Massachusetts and thereafter achieved Board Certification in Psychiatry from the ABPN.
I make my best efforts to be approachable and available to my patients. I try to provide enough information during appointments to assist patients in the mutual decision-making process for the appropriate selection of treatment. Respect, therapeutic relationship building, and empathy are central to the success of any treatment. To enter initial intake information and set up an appointment, please use this page.
I enjoy spending my non-working time outdoors and have settled in the state of New York for the past 16 years.
What should a new client know about working with you?
I am very thorough, do necessary testing, evaluation as part of a diagnostic assessment. I have a comprehensive discussion with my patients of best course of treatments available, risks and benefits.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
A first appointment is typically an initial psychiatric assessment lasting 1 hr or a little more. I prefer do do that in person, but can do telehealth, assuming an in person appointment can be held. Follow ups often include med management, add on psychotherapy and can be telehealth or in person. I like to know general medical status, perform necessary workups as part of assessment.

I am extremely pleased with both my sessions and my progress with Dr. Mittel. He listens to my needs, concerns and requests regarding my medication. Dr. Mittel has decreased my need for one medicine, helping me to function on a more normal daily basis. I would definitely recommend him to others.
