“Dr. Hon is very easy to talk to and seems very interested in helping his patients; excellent bedside manner. My only issues with my appointment were the waiting room, wait time, and counter staff. None of these were awful, but all could use some improvement.”

About Dr. Peter Hon

I went into surgery because I love medicine. I love taking care of people and helping them achieve their goals. Nothing is more rewarding to me than running into a patient outside the hospital who is unrecognizable because they were so ill when I first met them. This fills me with joy, knowing that the patient is out of the hospital and enjoying life, our most precious gift. A common question I get is, "Why colon and rectal surgery?" The colon and rectum are just another part of the body that have unfortunately been stigmatized. People with problems affecting these areas sometimes suffer needlessly longer than they have to because of this stigma. I find tremendous job satisfaction in helping those people improve their quality of life. I earned my Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, and completed my undergraduate studies at Cornell University.

Tl;dr: fine doctor, but terrible and unresponsive billing practice. Expect a "large hold" on your card for 7+ months (can't use dollar specifics in reviews) I visited Peter Hon's NYC office on 1060 5th Ave ~7 months ago for a Proctoscopy exam. After my visit, I was charged a "large hold" on my healthcare FSA card as a placeholder until his billing office negotiated with my insurance on the actual cost of the procedure. Under my UnitedHealthcare plan, it requires a small amount of co-pay for a visit, and a small percentage of co-insurance for a specific procedure. I expected the cost to be MUCH lower than the "large hold", and for it to be resolved fairly quickly from my experiences with other medical providers. This was 7 months ago, on May 17, 2019 and I still have the "large hold" placed on my FSA card. Throughout the 7 months since, I have repeatedly reached out to Peter's billing office (MD Capital Advisors) to resolve this. Rachel and Lauren have been completely unhelpful in that time. Not only were they consistently unavailable during business hours, but when I was able to reach them, I was told that they sent my medical records to my insurance (and that they haven’t heard back). I kept waiting and checking up every few weeks, all to the same response, leaving me in limbo. Ultimately, at the 5th month, I decided to call my insurance. United told me they didn’t receive anything from the billing office. I decided to connect my insurance to Peter's office (is this my job?), and it turns out, Peter's billing office used the wrong fax number. I thought that was the end of my problem until I called again sometime last month, and of course I can’t reach Rachel or Lauren, so I contact my insurance. Turns out, they did receive my medical records this time, but what was sent wasn’t enough and they needed more information. Because they didn’t pick up the phone, I was unaware of the status of when or if my more completed medical records will be sent. That same day, I personally sent Peter Hon a message describing my frustrating situation, and as of today (12/4/19), a month later, he has not responded nor has the situation been resolved. At this rate, I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t resolved by year-end. Is it too unrealistic to ask people to be at their jobs and know what’s going on? Given the existing "large hold" on my limited healthcare FSA dollars, I used after-tax dollars on other procedures because I ran out of time and pre-tax dollars. I don’t plan to ever visit Peter’s practice again due to his and his billing office’s unresponsiveness to take care of his (former) patients.

Dr Hon is very personable and explains things well. The wait time was unbearable. 2.5 hours was the average wait time. Some people had been waiting and standing for over 3 hours. They double and triple book patients for the same time slot. It’s absolutely ridiculous patient
The short time that I met Dr. Han, he answered all my questions, was an all around cool guy. I had a "Left Laparoscopic Inguinal Hernia Surgery". I followed what the nurse and Dr.'s told me a week before surgery and everything came out well. I had no complications, Dr. Han is pro so if your looking for a good surgeon specifically who performs Laparoscopic surgery related to hernias etc. then he's your man. I'm 4 and a half weeks in and I feel great. I'm walking normally, no pain etc. I'm a 33 year old male. Just in case anyone is curious for any reason related to surgery because we all know age is a factor too besides overall health etc. I would like to just say thank you to Dr. Han and that I appreciate what he does for his patients. Dr. Han, Thank you. :) & to all the nurses etc. who assisted as well, thank you so much. Your work has not gone unnoticed.

He was very relatable and put me at ease. He recommended a less aggressive but promising approach to my issue. I would highly recommend him

Once I got in the room, Dr. Hon was efficient and extremely helpful. He clearly presented what the diagnosis was and gave multiple options with how to move forward.

The location where I was waiting was pretty small and had a lot of people. It ain't necessarily bad at all because if there were a lot of people that means those surgeons are in high demand and skilled. I mean people were willing to stand the whole time as long as they had to, that to me says a lot about the Dr's/Surgeons. Dr. Hon was nice and courteous. He was straight to the point which is a plus for me as well. He was cool, asked if I had any questions, made a joke or 2 which made me feel more comfortable, made him easy to speak with. As for the surgery, I'll give everyone an update on that because it's one thing to be nice but its another to know that this Dr/Surgeon is skilled at what they do and that they do it well. I have confidence in Dr. Peter Hon. He seemed confident which is a great sign to me. With that being said I'm happy to proceed ahead. So far, I would recommend Dr. Peter Hon. By the way, he also said he enjoys Laparoscopic surgery so that's also a plus when you want a surgery that's less evasive and that's exactly what I was looking for when it comes to having a "Left Inguinal Hernia". Location was at 1060 and 5th ave. Right across from the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
