He spent a good deal of time listening and getting to know me, which is extremely rare these days. I loved his attitude, his willingness to learn about my health condition, and his focus on lifestyle and holistic healing as opposed to only treating symptoms. He works with his wife, who also treated me and my girlfriend very well, and together they make a wonderful medical team. I will definitely be going to back to see them. ”

About Dr. Peter John Schanen
Sana Vida Wellness Center is a local, privately owned business. We are not owned or managed by large corporations or hospital systems. Therefore, you will always visit with the same professional who takes great pride in providing personalized services in an efficient and very friendly environment.
Its sole owner, Dr. Schanen, APRN, has lived in the greater San Antonio area for over 14 years and now resides in Boerne, Texas. He earned his Doctorate in Family Nursing from the University of Texas, El Paso. He has been married to Irma, who is a nurse, for 26 years and has two children who are also very supportive and involved in his business. He has worked as a clinician in various ERs in the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Victoria areas, as well as in urgent care and family health settings. His passion, however, is providing good health and wellness care through weight loss and hormone replacement therapies.
Before becoming a clinician, John owned and operated seven outpatient physical therapy clinics throughout South Texas for over 10 years. As a non-practicing owner, he found the challenge and reward of not providing direct patient care was missing. So, in 2009, he sold the business and enrolled in school with the goal of becoming a clinician and opening his own healthcare practice.
When not striving to keep his patients happy and healthy, he enjoys riding his motorcycle in the Texas Hill Country, reading, golfing, snow skiing, and traveling with his family.

My visit was great, the 4th Dr I've seen in San Antonio of the 4th he is the only one that really seemed to care in a city saturated with doctors who treat patients like cattle.
His system pulled up previous medical history, that helped him offer me some other treatment options for my migraines and other helpful medical advise.
I feel very lucky, he is open late. Not a lot of options for patients that need to be seen after 5. So I hit the Dr Lottery here.
The nurses were awesome which also a big shock.
I am grateful, I feel 80% better and I know I will get to 100% by close of week.

Represented themselves as in network for my insurance. Took my insurance info and copay then send me a bill for hundreds of dollars a few weeks later saying it was out of network. Be careful before you visit.

Do not go here if you need Psychiatric care...it is an urgent care clinic. Actually, based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone for anything! Schanen was very rude to me and made me feel stupid. When I showed him the medications I’m taking (2 of which are controlled substances), he was appalled and insinuated that I was doctor shopping. And “you shouldn’t be on all these medications at the age of 23”. He informed me multiple times that he was not a psychiatrist and refused to fill my medications. I told him that he popped up on Zocdoc under Psychiatry and he looked puzzled. Finally after grilling me about why I had moved from California to Texas he agreed to fill all but one of my medications. On the way out he gave me 2 pieces of paper, one of which was a referral to a psychiatric facility. A waste of my time and a 30-minute drive.

I live in Corpus Christi and had a Telemedicine visit using my iPhone for medication refills with NP Schanen today. He was able send my prescriptions to my pharmacy in Corpus immediately and they were ready to pickup within an hour of my visit. Talk about convenience.

Came to this clinic one afternoon as a walk-in patient for painful urination. The provider saw me right away, made a diagnosis, give me an antibiotic shot, and some prescriptions. I felt better that night. I'll be back in the future.

Highly recommend! Getting in to see your regular Dr or a specialist these days takes too long, especially on short notice situations - our visit here was quick, thorough and covered all our needs.
