Our Founder
Dr. P. John Schanen, APRN, DNP, FNP-C, ENP-C, has cared for the greater San Antonio community for 15+ years and now calls Boerne home. He earned his Doctor of Nursing Practice and Master’s in Nursing from the University of Texas at El Paso and a Bachelor’s degree from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. His clinical experience spans emergency rooms across San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and Victoria, as well as urgent care and family health—bringing calm, practical expertise to both complex and everyday concerns.
Before becoming a clinician, he founded and operated seven outpatient physical therapy clinics across South Texas. That entrepreneurial background, combined with hands-on clinical leadership, shapes a practice that is efficient, friendly, and relentlessly patient-centered.

I was hesitant to go with a male doctor due to past experiences, but I was pleasantly surprised by Dr. Nyes bedside manner and the overall experience. I feel like the doctor heard me, a plan of care has been established, and there has been trust/communication established. I'm very happy that they take my insurance and don't mind the drive the level of care is worth it.

I'm new to the San Antonio area and I picked out this practice based on the listings my insurance company gave me. It was a very pleasant surprise to have found Dr. Schanen. He spent a good deal of time listening and getting to know me, which is extremely rare these days. I loved his attitude, his willingness to learn about my health condition, and his focus on lifestyle and holistic healing as opposed to only treating symptoms. He works with his wife, who also treated me and my girlfriend very well, and together they make a wonderful medical team. I will definitely be going to back to see them.

My visit was great, the 4th Dr I've seen in San Antonio of the 4th he is the only one that really seemed to care in a city saturated with doctors who treat patients like cattle.
His system pulled up previous medical history, that helped him offer me some other treatment options for my migraines and other helpful medical advise.
I feel very lucky, he is open late. Not a lot of options for patients that need to be seen after 5. So I hit the Dr Lottery here.
The nurses were awesome which also a big shock.
I am grateful, I feel 80% better and I know I will get to 100% by close of week.

Represented themselves as in network for my insurance. Took my insurance info and copay then send me a bill for hundreds of dollars a few weeks later saying it was out of network. Be careful before you visit.

Do not go here if you need Psychiatric care...it is an urgent care clinic. Actually, based on my experience I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone for anything! Schanen was very rude to me and made me feel stupid. When I showed him the medications I’m taking (2 of which are controlled substances), he was appalled and insinuated that I was doctor shopping. And “you shouldn’t be on all these medications at the age of 23”. He informed me multiple times that he was not a psychiatrist and refused to fill my medications. I told him that he popped up on Zocdoc under Psychiatry and he looked puzzled. Finally after grilling me about why I had moved from California to Texas he agreed to fill all but one of my medications. On the way out he gave me 2 pieces of paper, one of which was a referral to a psychiatric facility. A waste of my time and a 30-minute drive.
