Dr. Nakaji has dedicated his career to helping one person at a time with innovative, personalized, patient-focused neurosurgical care. A highly experienced, internationally recognized neurosurgeon who has honed top-level skills in minimally invasive brain surgery, Dr. Nakaji has made a commitment to pursuing neurosurgical improvement and perfection and advancing the field of neurosurgery. Dr. Nakaji has spent decades performing the most challenging brain surgeries, developing better techniques (often “minimally-invasive,” meaning smaller incisions and faster recoveries), and improving outcomes through research and teaching. Dr. Nakaji recently started a new private practice that allows him to focus his energy on his true love: solving brain surgery problems in the service of individual patients using highly refined techniques, many of his own design. The goal is for patients to benefit from superior outcomes and a better patient experience. Dr. Nakaji focuses his practice on select problems of the brain, including aneurysms, arteriovenous malformations, brain tumors, Chiari malformation, colloid cysts, and venous disorders, among others. Innovation is a way of life for Dr. Nakaji: he holds many medical patents and is a founder of an Arizona company that makes the widely-used innovative FDA-approved brain tumor treatment GammaTile. He has received many prestigious awards such as the AANS/CNS Tumor Section research award. He has published hundreds of peer-reviewed papers and authored or edited 12 neurosurgery books. He has been named an Arizona Top Doc fourteen times. Dr. Nakaji is board-certified, and a fellow of numerous neurosurgical societies (AANS, CNS, AAcNS, etc.) and of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). Dr. Nakaji originally hails from coastal San Diego, California, and has been a longtime resident of Phoenix, Arizona, where he now lives with his wife, children, and two dogs. He has a great love of travel, literature, and philosophy.
