About Dr. Punam Thakkar
Dr. Punam Thakkar is an Assistant Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery at George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. She earned her B.S. in Biology from the City University of New York – Brooklyn College and earned her M.D. from SUNY Downstate College of Medicine. Following a residency in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Dr. Thakkar pursued additional Head and Neck Surgical Oncology and Reconstructive surgery fellowship training at The University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Thakkar’s clinical and research interests lie primarily in the treatment of benign and malignant tumors of the head and neck, microvascular free tissue transfer, and transoral robotic surgery (TORS) with an emphasis on preserving functional outcomes.

Dr Thakkar was very clear about my condition and how to treat treat it. I will happily use here again as needed. The only drawback is that 2300 m st is not close to a metro stop

My actual session with Dr. Thakkar was brief, but complete. As others have mentioned in their reviews, I think the office has issues in scheduling appointments - the wait for my doctor was over 35 minutes long, and during that time, I wasn't made aware of the delay. I don't think I'll return because of this lack of respect for the patient's time.

I appreciated the speed in which Dr. Thakkar was able to see me. She was very professional, with a nice disposition. However, I did find the appointment to be a bit too short and rushed. She was very helpful in explaining processes in an easy & digestible manner. She was a good listener, hearing all of concerns and symptoms. However, when it came to discussing possible causes for my symptoms, I found this part of our discussion to be rushed. I am mindful that this could be as a result of COVID or the fact that it was a 1st visit, but I hope that during my next visit we are able to spend more time to discuss after having more data in hand.

Turns out my ear was clogged from major wax buildup. Dr. Thakkar was extremely kind and helpful in her diagnosis and solution to my problem. She had two medical students with her observing and they were quiet, helpful, and very polite.

It was difficult to get information from her. I asked a lot of questions and while she did answer them, it felt like she didn't think it was important to give me all the information I needed to understand my condition. For example, I had to ask her at the end what my prognosis was, and whether my situation was normal, to find that out. I think she knows a lot, I would just encourage her to say more and be more helpful.
