Getting to know Quashana Barber

I work with mothers, infants, children, teens, couples, and families to navigate life’s transitions, with a special focus on the emotional experiences of pregnancy, postpartum, and early parenting. I specialize in trauma-focused therapy and EMDR, helping clients of all ages process difficult experiences, build resilience, and reconnect with a sense of safety and well-being. My approach is compassionate and evidence-based, blending practical coping tools with thoughtful exploration of emotions, identity, and relationships. I create a safe, nurturing space where mothers feel supported, children feel understood, and families can strengthen attachment, foster healing, and grow together.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Working with me is a collaborative and supportive experience where you don’t have to have everything figured out before you arrive. Many of the clients I see are navigating tender seasons—like becoming a parent, adjusting to life with a new baby, or supporting a child through big emotions, while also holding their own stress, identity shifts, or past experiences. My style is warm, grounded, and attuned. I take time to really get to know you and your story, and we move at a pace that feels safe and manageable. Therapy with me isn’t rushed or one-size-fits-all—it’s a space where you can slow down, feel supported, and begin to make sense of what you’re carrying. I use a trauma-informed and integrative approach, drawing from EMDR, CBT, mindfulness, and attachment-based work. This means we may explore past experiences, build practical coping tools, and strengthen connection both within yourself and in your relationships. Above all, my goal is to create a space that feels calm, inclusive, and real where you feel seen and supported, and where growth can happen in a way that feels sustainable and aligned with your life.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My work starts with slowing down and really getting to know you or your child beyond just the surface. I want to understand your story, where you come from, what you’ve been carrying, and what brought you here. In those first sessions, we take our time. We talk through what’s been hard, but also what’s strong, what’s helped you survive, and what you’re hoping can feel different. As a therapist of color, I hold space for the layers that don’t always get named—culture, family, identity, the weight of expectations, and the things we’ve had to push through just to keep going. You don’t have to explain everything here or shrink parts of yourself to be understood. From there, therapy becomes something we build together. We move at a pace that feels right for you, checking in along the way and shifting as your needs shift. Whether I’m working with you, your child, or supporting your relationship with your baby, my focus is on creating a space that feels real, supportive, and grounded—where healing doesn’t feel forced, but possible, and where growth honors your lived experience.
