Getting to know Quilon Wise

*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ so you can complete required intake forms prior to your appointment* I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner with a Master of Science in Nursing from SUNY Binghamton. I provide psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and therapy to adults across New York. My background includes over 14 years of nursing experience in a variety of settings, including addiction medicine and community mental health. While working at a community mental health center, I discovered how meaningful it was to walk alongside patients as they progressed toward mental wellness, and that continues to inspire my work with you today. I specialize in treating anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder and other mood disorders, and PTSD. My approach is rooted in patient-centered care, where your treatment plan is tailored to you and incorporates your cultural and religious values. I use a solutions-focused approach to help you identify your strengths and work toward your goals. I also have experience working with diverse populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals, seniors, people diagnosed with autism, and patients from culturally diverse backgrounds. Decreasing the stigma around mental health is something I am deeply passionate about, shaped by my own experience supporting a close family member through their mental health struggles. I want you to feel heard and understood, and to know you have a partner in your journey toward improved well-being.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I believe a strong therapeutic alliance is the foundation of effective care. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental environment where you feel comfortable expressing yourself. I use whole person care, which means I consider not only your symptoms, but also the unique life experiences, values, and background that make you who you are. I use a solutions-focused approach, which emphasizes setting clear, realistic goals and developing strategies to achieve them. I also integrate therapy into treatment, helping you build coping skills and gain insight into patterns that may be affecting your mental health. For example, therapy may involve exploring and challenging unhelpful thought patterns, learning stress management techniques, or developing communication skills to improve your relationships. You can expect me to take the time to answer your questions and make sure you understand the rationale behind any recommendations. I encourage open communication and want you to feel like an active partner as we develop your plan of care together.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

During our first session, we will talk about your goals and discuss treatment options, which may include medication, therapy, or a combination of both. If medication is appropriate, I will explain how it works and what to expect, so you feel informed and comfortable moving forward. Follow-up sessions are collaborative and focused on your progress. We will review how you are responding to treatment, discuss any side effects, and adjust your care plan as needed. Therapy within these sessions may include practicing coping skills, exploring life stressors, and identifying ways to improve your relationships and overall quality of life. I often remind new patients that improving your mental health is a process that takes time. My advice is to ask questions, stay curious, and keep an open mind. When I’m not working, I enjoy walks with my children and dogs, reading, and spending time with loved ones, all of which help me recharge and stay present for you.
