About Rachel Markfeld

Hello! I'm a passionate Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) based in Northport, NY. I started my private practice to address the need for SLPs in the Northport area, where long waitlists are common. I have over 13 years of experience working with pediatrics in the community and schools. I began my career as a speech-language pathologist because I learned American Sign Language and loved working with deaf individuals. I earned my Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology at Gallaudet University, a global leader in education for deaf and hard of hearing students. My professional experience spans private practice, schools, home therapy, and teletherapy. I have worked with a range of populations including late talkers, language disorders, speech disorders, autism, and a wide variety of special needs children. I also spent four years working in Australia's outback, addressing unique communication challenges faced by the Aboriginal community and at a deaf/blind center. I have particular expertise with special needs, autism, and hearing loss. I am proficient in American Sign Language (ASL) and well versed in Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC). I have a strong passion for helping families provide their children with the right tools and strategies to communicate. I view therapy as a partnership between client, therapist, and family. As a mom to two small children, I understand the challenges and responsibilities that come with parenting. I'm here to help and look forward to getting to know you and your family.

As a mother, I had the pleasure of working with Rachel who helped my son overcome his articulation issues. I cannot thank her enough for her exceptional service. She was not only efficient in addressing the problem quickly but also displayed a professional and friendly approach that made the experience truly wonderful.
