Dr. Rainier Ricanor, MD

Dr. Rainier Ricanor, MD

Pain Management Specialist
855 State 17M, Monroe, NY
What made you want to become a health care provider or what is your earliest memory of wanting to be one? My initial exposure to the field of medicine was as a patient under the care of my grandfather, a devoted general surgeon in the Philippines. As a child suffering from asthma, I relied on his medical expertise during my most vulnerable moments. Beyond his medical career, he was deeply committed to public health and dedicated to serving his community. His profound compassion and selfless dedication to others left an indelible mark on me, inspiring my own deep-seated passion for medicine. What do you love most about your specialty? / Why did you choose your specialty? Witnessing firsthand how pain can impact every facet of life- physically, psychologically, emotionally, economically, and socially-through a family member's injury drew me to a specialty devoted to pain relief As an anesthesiologist, I am adept at swiftly addressing physiological disturbances in the operating room. However, pain medicine offers a broader scope that encompasses continuity of patient care and guiding individuals on their journey to recovery. Pain medicine parallels the multidisciplinary approach of anesthesiology, demanding critical thinking and investigative skills to identify and address the root causes of pain. This field is continually evolving, providing ongoing opportunities for learning and professional growth. How do you connect with your patients? When patients first come to me, they are often burdened by frustration, exhaustion, and fear, finding themselves at a vulnerable point in their lives. I make it my priority to treat them with the same empathy and compassion I would extend to a family member. Clear and effective communication is paramount in this process. What is your advice for your patients? Recovery from pain is a team effort. With optimism and persistence, you can overcome any challenge.
