About Dr. Randall Owen

Dr. Owen's clinical and research interests center on Head & Neck and Endocrine Surgery. This includes a broad range of conditions such as thyroid nodules, goiters and cancer, hyperparathyroidism, and cancers and masses of the mouth, throat, salivary glands, and neck. Consultations in the office include a detailed interview and physical examination, along with possible sonogram, needle biopsy, or fiberoptic laryngoscopy. Surgical procedures used to treat these conditions include minimally invasive parathyroid surgery under local anesthesia, thyroid surgery performed through the axilla, and radical cancer resections with free flap reconstruction. Dr. Owen also performs general surgical procedures including cholecystectomy, appendectomy, incisional and inguinal hernia repair, portacath placement, and gastrostomy. He recently published groundbreaking work on radiofrequency ablation of head and neck cancers in the May 2011 issue of Archives of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery. Dr. Owen received a B.A. with honors in science and humanities from Seattle Pacific University. He earned his M.D. from Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons and completed a Master's in Clinical Research at Albert Einstein College of Medicine of Yeshiva University. He then completed his general surgery residency at Montefiore Medical Center/Albert Einstein College of Medicine, followed by a Head & Neck surgery fellowship at the same institution. After joining the faculty, he became chief of the Head & Neck Division at Montefiore in 2006. In 2009, he was recruited to The Mount Sinai Medical Center to join the Metabolic, Endocrine & Minimally Invasive Surgery Division.
