“One thing I thought was a little weird was they made my appointment time for 9am but they don’t open until 9am. Typically I arrive 10-15 early to check in and fill out paperwork but they would not let me in until 9am which was understandable. I wasn’t seen until probably 9:10 so it seemed a little bit of a strange scheduling time but otherwise everything was fine. ”

About Raquel Shadan
Raquel Shadan is a board-certified Physician Assistant specializing in both medical and cosmetic Dermatology. She attended St. John’s University’s accelerated and rigorous Physician Assistant program and graduated Magna Cum Laude.
Raquel completed several months of training in the TDS fellowship program alongside many providers and is an active member of the Society of Dermatology Physician Assistants.
Prior to joining The Dermatology Specialists, Raquel worked as a Dermatology medical assistant in New York City and gained experience during her Dermatology and Plastic Surgery clinical rotations. Her past experience as a medical assistant strengthened her passion for Dermatology and has allowed her to recognize and empathize with patients who struggle with various skin conditions.

Office confirmed my appointment. I showed up early to register and fill out paperwork. Waited for provider to see me for 30-40 minutes only to be informed by office staff provider was no longer in the office. Fromt office staff is unorganized. Provider is unprofessional for confirming appointment and leaving beforehand.

I was a first time patient here , and I am a doctor myself. The provider told me my options with my prompts. I was unsure about taking the oral medication, told her that I want to think about it. She told me I can let her know by phone, she can put in the prescription for me later.
I called the clinic 5 times asking for the prescription. She finally put it in for 1 month supply with no refill for my chronic cystic acne. I know that the medication prescribed takes effect in 2-3 months for cystic acne to clear.
I went to the office, asked why my prescription was sent to the pharmacy w/ no refills, I was told I should come back next month to see the PA again and she might renew the prescription then. Since this medication takes < 1 month to take effect, it is likely that there won’t be any clinical improvement by 1 month. Then WHY should I come back in 1 month? No explanation. The PA was not in the office (or so I was told), could not ask her directly. They are after the money!!!

I am so extremely happy to have found Raquel Shadan. I was so nervous and I expressed this to Manmar (so sorry if I misspell her name) who spoke with me before Dr. Shadan came into the room, and she ensured me that the team was non-judgmental and I should not worry. Raquel came in and I felt she could tell I was nervous and hesitant, she made me feel so comfortable immediately and she listened to me and approached my issue with a clear yet understanding game plan which made me feel more at ease. By the end of the appointment, all my anxiety and embarrassment was long gone and I could not be happier. I finally got diagnosed with something I have been struggling with for so long and I only wish I had found her sooner, but nonetheless, I highly recommend her and her lovely staff. Not to mention the office is clean, nice and quiet (except the exam room walls are a litttleeee thin so you can hear other convos muffled but that's okay). Thank you Zocdoc and thank you Dermatology Specialists!
