Getting to know Reagan Anusionwu

I am a licensed, Board Certified Advanced Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner with over 11 years of specialized experience in psychiatry. I hold a Master's in Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from City University of New York, Hunter College, and a Doctor of Nursing Practice from Fairleigh Dickinson University. My areas of expertise span Anxiety Disorders, Depression, Psychosis, Bipolar Disorder, ADHD, and managing Impulsivity and Aggression. I offer comprehensive psychotropic medication management integrated with a variety of evidence-based psychotherapy techniques, tailoring care to individuals across all age groups-from children to adults. Throughout my experience working in mental health services, one significant core assumption has taken root-real mental health does not look like ?feeling better? and is not limited only to psychological comfort. It means and implies being settled and fully and positively present. This principle informs my work with patients, where care involves the advancement of the very best intervention strategies as determined by expert current knowledge. I actively encourage patients to participate in their treatment and strive to collaborate with each person in generating individualized therapies that seek not just to remove the immediate illness but to maintain mental well-being long term. Looking to the future, my intention is to secure a high level of mental health care for each client in such a way that they will not relapse.

What should a new client know about working with you?

Given that you are new to our services, I assure you that communication between us will be effective and respectful. To have an efficient dialogue during your visit, please fill out the patient intake form at least one hour before the appointment. Completing this form usually takes at least 30 minutes, so please allocate enough time so that proper planning is done for you and that you can efficiently use the time during the session available for both of us. Having your intake questionnaire finished will give us your health history and present health needs, and both of those will enable a better approach to our first or initial meeting. I aim to provide a nice and personalized atmosphere where we can, of course, put constructive effort into mental health with your full cooperation. Should you encounter any difficulties or still have questions about completing the questionnaire, please give a heads-up. We find great pleasure in achieving good health and will do our best to help.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

My approach to working with clients is personalized, collaborative, and rooted in evidence-based care. Here’s what you can typically expect: Comprehensive Intake: Before your first appointment, please complete an intake form (allow at least 30 minutes for this) and submit it at least an hour before our scheduled session. This information helps me prepare your chart and maximizes our time together. Initial Evaluation: In our first session, we will discuss your mental health history, current symptoms, and overall goals. This in-depth evaluation enables me to develop a tailored treatment plan. Treatment Planning: Based on our initial consultation, we will create a personalized treatment plan. Depending on your unique needs, this plan may include psychotherapy, medication management, or a combination of both. Ongoing Support: Follow-up sessions will focus on monitoring your progress, adjusting your treatment as needed, and providing continuous support. I aim to help you manage your symptoms and achieve long-term wellness. Open Communication: Throughout the process, I encourage open dialogue. Your feedback is crucial in ensuring your treatment plan is effective and aligned with your goals. I aim to help you feel well, maintain mental health stability, and live a balanced, fulfilling life. Our process is built on partnership and trust, ensuring you receive the compassionate, expert care you deserve.

I would most definitely Refer a friend or family member to him. He listen to me he asked questions. The main thing was his bed side manner. At the end of our visit he said to me don't worry we're gonna get you back to the way you once was. Which was extremely important to me that he listen to everything I spoke to him about. Also he didn't rush our visit he took his time with his patient which is myself

Great onboarding process. Seemingly stress free. Personally answered the phone assuring me that the online forms were safe to disclose personal information. Listened to my concerns and created a no nonsense plan to try and get me the support I desperately need. The Dr even responded by text when I didn't understand a portion of the process. The office reception immediately forwarded information for the lab. I was relieved of a lot of stress due to Dr Reagan popping up while I was searching zocdoc. This process was flawless.

had a great experience during my recent visit. The doctor was very professional, attentive, and took the time to listen to all my concerns. The staff was friendly. I really appreciated how clearly the doctor explained everything and made me feel comfortable throughout the appointment. Highly recommend this clinic for anyone looking for quality care and genuine attention!

Dr reagan made me feel so comfortable by listening to me understanding me and giving me the opportunity to express myself before giving a input and he also gave me time before rushing to visually showing myself he ask with respect if i was ready to interact with him on FaceTime so he gave me my space so i love that

What initially made me book with this doctor were the great reviews I read. I was hopeful — and to be fair, the consultation itself was excellent. I felt heard and was properly diagnosed. However, it’s been months of trying to access the prescribed medication with no success. I’ve asked for alternatives, begged for help, gone from pharmacy to pharmacy — and never felt any real effort to help me access what was prescribed. Every time I needed help, I was told to book another appointment. So I did — and left with nothing resolved. This experience has only worsened my mental health. I’ve had panic attacks and anxiety. I’ve now decided to find a provider who offers more humane care — someone who doesn’t treat me like a ping-pong ball passed around. I’m a human being. If you need medication or real support, I don’t recommend this clinic.

This was one of the most frustrating care experiences I’ve ever had. He was late to the first the first secure video visit. Follow-ups were hard to get and he no longer answered the video visits. Instead I would have to call him or his secretary over the phone. All meetings started late and lasted only a few minutes. I had to initiate most contact, even when experiencing issues with medication. When I couldn’t recall a previous prescription, I felt talked down to rather than supported. I understand emergencies happen, but being told three times in a row that crisis care for other patients prevented follow-ups felt dismissive. I never felt fully heard or prioritized, and eventually stopped receiving responses at all. I stuck with it longer than I should have because I needed help, but looking back, I didn’t feel safe or supported. That’s not how mental health care should feel.

He seems invested in supporting me in healthy, healing journey. I prefer female doctors but I was in desperate straits and he had good reviews. I chafed against the "God" talk as I'm an atheist, but I mentally substituted "the Universe" for God mentions. I'm severely disregulated so I cry a lot, and was told to stop crying twice during our appointment. I've experienced this reaction to crying from abusive father and my former husband, leaving me to believe it's a male attribute. Female therapists have encouraged crying, or at least didn't tell me to stop crying during sessions in my 15 years of therapy. Still, I believe he cares about helping me through this crisis, and had no hesitation in prescribing me meds-Klonopin-my previous female prescribing nurse refused to entertain. Plus, he offers Saturday hours.

Dr. Reagan was very helpful and his staff! They were swift in taking care of my needs. The only hiccup between the office and Zocdoc was that I opted for an office visit and it was switched to virtual without my knowledge. It was a mix up other than that GREAT staff and Dr. Reagan. I would definitely recommend..
Great Doc! Very caring and informative.

Im so glad I found him, the appointment was 30 minutes and during that time i was able to address my concerns. Very understanding and good doctor.

Poor listener - rushes through appointments. Internet never works for the video calls. Never sends in or modifies your prescriptions in a timely manner. Has an assistant who’s a poor communicator and takes days to get back to you.
If I was able to give 10 stars I would. Dr Reagan was incredible. He was compassionate and listened to every detail of what I was having issues with and worked with me with a plan to get myself feeling better. I would recommend Dr Reagan to anyone looking for care. I have seen many Psychiatrist over the years and by far he was the best. I look forward to my next visit and my continued care with Dr Reagan.

Dr. Anusionwu is wonderful! It’s tough to find good help for mental health, and I was relieved when I found his service. He is attentive, helpful and kind, which makes the process of receiving treatment a lot better than some of the experiences I’ve had in the past. I recommend Dr. Anusionwu to anyone looking to change their life for the better!
Dr. Reagan has impacted my life and mental health for the better significantly! I will be continuing services with him for the long term! He’s one of the good ones! I highly recommend him.
He is an amazing, kind, and patient individual and very fast to respond. I’ve been a patient for over two years now and would highly recommend his services.
Dr Reagan has been the best psychiatrist I’ve ever been to. He is so easy to talk to and even shares information about himself, which makes it easier to open up to him. He is always looking to make things easier, and more comfortable for his patients.
Regan is an excellent professional who made helped me comfortable with my issues and gave me a path to slowly work through them

It was an interesting experience. Off the bat, I was pushed towards taking medication, even though I said I did not want it and was only interested in talk therapy. The doctor mentioned medication about 3 other times during the visit. He told me to schedule a meeting with his team and that we would check back every two weeks. I had to reschedule an appointment because of work, and the doctor did not even know who I was and if I was taking medicine. It didn't feel like a friendly environment as therapy should be. The Zoom compatibility was also not the best; I could only see his eyes and it was a really noisy background.

My intake with Dr. Reagan went well, he was immediately confident that we would be successful working together over the next two years.
    Verified patientVideo visit
I don’t feel like I was being listened to and he then proceeded to ask if I trust him at the end of the session. Which I thought was unprofessional. Then prescribed me medication which to my own research would effect my medical condition.
