About Dr. Recaredo Berbano

Board-Certified Endocrinologist | Menopause & PCOS Specialist | Obesity Medicine Specialist For Dr. Recaredo Berbano, medicine has always been personal. Inspired early in life by his grandfather’s struggle with diabetes, Dr. Berbano set out to become the kind of physician who doesn’t just treat disease, but helps people live longer, healthier, and more fulfilling lives. That mission has guided more than 30 years of clinical practice and leadership in endocrinology and hormone health. His areas of expertise span from gender affirming hormone therapy where he has been a leader and pioneer over decades, to thyroid disease to mid-life medicine. Today, Dr. Berbano is deeply focused on helping women navigate some of the most misunderstood and under-treated phases of life—perimenopause, menopause, and PCOS. His patients often come to him after years of being told their symptoms are “normal,” dismissed, or fragmented across multiple providers. Dr. Berbano takes a different approach: listening carefully, looking at the whole picture, and treating hormone health with both science and compassion. Dr. Berbano is board certified in Endocrinology & Metabolism, Internal Medicine, Obesity Medicine, and is a NAMS Certified Menopause Practitioner. He completed his medical training in New York City, where he trained at Lenox Hill Hospital for Internal Medicine and completed his Endocrinology Fellowship at St. Vincent’s Hospital, an experience that helped shape his inclusive, whole-person approach to care. Over the past 25+ years, he has served patients across academic systems and private practice, and he remains actively involved in medical education and clinical research. Patients often describe Dr. Berbano as approachable, thoughtful, and deeply invested in their outcomes. He believes hormone care should be empowering (not confusing!) and that patients deserve clear answers and a plan that helps them feel like themselves again.

Monday morning appointment - had to wait over an hour. No update, no apology and no idea of how long to wait. Pathetic.
Good doctor. Talked to me like an adult. Had a legitimate clinical rationale for his decisions. That's a 10/10 in my book.

They called beforehand for forms needed and they were very clear and great.
Verified patient
Very nice and efficient. Answered all my questions, and was very clear with instructions.
The office was not open upon my arrival, long wait time, and there was a clear language barrier with the staff.
Reception desk staffs are extremely rude and impatient both in person and over the phone. Worse clinic ever.
They were very efficient and my doctor looked at my information and got me on a better insulin regimen.
The staff was friendly and efficient and the doctor was professional and thorough and communicative.?

Dr was a very good listener, good bed side manners.

Horrible. Probably the worst doctor’s visit I have ever had, if we can call it that. He should retire and never seen any patients ever again. The “appointment” lasted about 2 mins max. He was not prepared and did not listen to anything I wanted to say. He was super rude, condescending and had zero empathy, but lots of sarcasm. I shared that I was really worried about my health and things not improving, his response was to stress less and chill. Not kidding. Also, he kept on prescribing the same medication which for the third time seemed to make my lab results gradually worse. There also appeared to be a language barrier. Stay away.
Video visit
Very confusing. I sent my lab result history to the staff but when I got on call with the doctor, he hadn't even taken a look at it. He asked me to repeat each individual result and date. So why have me send my history if you won't bother to look at it? Very confusing, very awkward, very big language barrier on both sides.

Never seen by Doctor I have 2 insurance second insurance should cover copayments but they don’t want to do that once I called their office they agreed but when I visited they refused

I like Dr. Berbano, but I've had numerous billing issues over the past six months. There have been no callbacks, no emails, and no texts from their office. Despite many attempts to resolve the issues, nothing was fixed. I entered my Medicare Advantage plan into Zocdoc, and it indicated that he accepts my insurance. However, my credit card was charged twice, so be cautious! After logging six hours of calls to their office, the billing department, my insurance, and Medicare, I discovered that he only accepts the Medicare part of my plan, not the Medicaid portion. Please check your transactions on your debit card, credit card, and bank statements. You could be paying for something that is actually covered by your insurance. Even when I went for blood work at Quest Diag. which is covered by my insurance I still get the bill in the mail 3rd time so far even though they said the 1st time they would take care of it. Lots of smoke and mirrors watch out!

The doctor didn't want to listen to all my questions and concerns. He prescribed two medications that are not compatible and could be harmful to my health. Disappointed and felt it was a waste of time.
The receptionists were cursing and discussing personal business, speaking about people loudly and negatively. Completely unprofessional. The doctor repeatedly asked me why I was there… not for a run down of symptoms, but actually why I was there in his office seeing him. He seemed nice enough and was thorough in the blood work ordered, however he was also abrasive. Outside of getting my test results, I will not return. I should’ve paid attention to the other reviews.
Great visit! Dr. was knowledgable and helpful with waiting me through the process. Staff is welcoming, friendly and patient! First time visit and wonderful experience=)
Fast & efficient. Your staff was helpful & kind.
No issues and seemless.
Overall my experience was fine. I also recommend to fill out the form prior to your appointment. Saves you a great deal of time.

The doctor bedside manners need to improve. Condescending attitude. My questions and concerns were ignored with a simple “no”. Cold attitude.

Everyone was fantastic from the front desk check-in, to the nurse who took my vitals and Dr. Berbano. I’m definitely returning here. Grateful.

A great experience, will be visiting soon

Office staff was amazing and so kind. I watched them allow a patient to use their personal laptop to register when they did not have a device. Dr. really listened to me. I am only 2 days away from seeing him and I feel so much better.
Verified patient
Horrible appointment. Went here due to instruction from my cardiologist and was offered zepbound within 5 mins of meeting the doctor. Didn’t listen to my concerns and then questioned a plan given to me by another doctor. Ultimately my treatment was to lose weight and take more meds which seemed like a blanket plan. I should’ve looked at the reviews before booking this appointment. Waste of my copay
Great doctor and friendly staff.

If I could give 0 stars, I would. I’m currently scrambling to find insulin on a holiday weekend because my insurance didn’t cover the insulin he switched me to, and when my pharmacy tried to contact him for OVER A MONTH for an alternative, he didn’t get back them. He didn’t refill any of my prescriptions I’ve been using for years, and he’s on vacation for another 10 days, so I’m left high and dry trying to find medication that will keep me alive. He was a poor listener and pressured me to try a new medication, which is why I’m left in this predicament.

Dr. Berbano's bedside manner can be greatly improved. He failed to explain multiple concepts regarding my diagnosis to me, even after I expressed I was confused. I have no background in medicine, which required him to slowly review my prescription and diagnosis - Something that greatly frustrated him. Perhaps my appointment caught him at a less-than-stellar disposition, but he was condescending and failed to communicate clearly during my session. On the flip side, the nursing staff is phenomenal. The two nurses I spoke with were very knowledgeable and kind. They, along with the receptionist, were even highly apologetic when an unrelated clerical error was raised by me during my visit.
I really enjoyed my visit - we discussed my concerns and my proposed plan of action. Doctor reviewed my record and weighed in with his suggestions and ultimately felt comfortable moving forward with treatment. Really glad I booked him - super smart!
Doctor was good during the appointment. We went over a game plan for my health. He sent over incorrect prescriptions to my pharmacy and it is almost impossible to get in contact with the doctor to get that rectified. You need to call a call center who sends the info to the doctor's office. I called last week when I had a decent supply of medicine to get it fixed because I understand requests take time. Now I am running out, I followed up and I have been calling every hour or so and it hasn't been addressed. There is no other number to call other than the general Bethany number. Make sure you verify everything is correct about your prescriptions before you leave the doctor's appointment because otherwise, it will be almost impossible to get that fixed.

Doctor was fine during the appointment. Now it's been a week since my appointment and I'm unable to reach out to him about the life-or-death prescription he forgot to fill. The number just routes you to an external call center with no power to do anything. I'm going to end up in the hospital because of this.

Offered me an rx without seeing my blood work from my GP, just took my word for it. That is a huge red flag. How can I trust a doctor that doesn’t require seeing the blood work when he should have sent me for more! I told him I have a history of thyroid nodules and he didn’t even mention sending me for a sonogram since it’s been years. He was so much more concerned about blaming all my thyroid issues on my birth control that he hardly listened. Absolutely one of the most worrying doctor experiences I’ve had.
Video visit
They only do Thyroid Ultrasounds on Mondays… yet they scheduled me on a Tuesday. The first thing the doctor said to me was “is that herpes on your chest” when referring to my birthmark. Then proceed to inspect my thyroid with no gloves and no warning. THEN he refused to give me the ultrasound that my primary physician sent me for to see if I had any cancerous cells or any other abnormalities in my thyroid. He just “knew I didn’t have any abnormalities”. He didn’t ask for my medical history, which included Thyroid Cancer and various other cancers. He then told me to take the same medication I was taking in the previous month to get the blood work that I had JUST taken a few days prior that my primary doctor had already order for me. He basically said the same thing my primary care physician had already stated and ordered for me minus the ultrasound because “he just knew”. My mother is an RN and even she stated I should get the ultrasound just in case. If I could put zero stars I would.
I really like the doctor. He listen to everything I had to say and ask questions…..he gives me good advice. I will definitely continue seeing him.
