About Dr. Richard Compton

Richard Compton, DO, MPH was born in Sacramento, CA. After earning his BS in Neuroscience from Brigham Young University, he received his DO from the Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine, Pennsylvania. He completed dual residency training in Family and Preventive Medicine at Loma Linda University Medical Center while obtaining his MPH in Population Health from Loma Linda School of Public Health. In his final year of residency, Dr. Compton served as Chief Resident. Dr. Compton enjoys many ties to Southern California including his religious community, family and cycling group. He is an avid cyclist, loving father, and is committed to supporting a healthy community. Dr. Compton loves to partner with patients to achieve their health goals, practice lifestyle medicine, and empower patients by encouraging healthful patient-driven action.

Nice staff and nice doctor. I felt that he heard my concerns, unlike many other doctors. He let me ask questions- I was even interrupting him because I would think of something I’d left out that seemed important to me. Staff was very clear about what would happen for my video visit and they let me ask questions, too. These things may seem silly, but to some people who may be panicked and never had to deal with something scary, this was highly appreciated.

Dr. Compton really shows care for his patients. He listens to the concerns and addresses them one by one. He recommendations take into accounts your personal desires and goals and does not push for a one-way street type of treatment or relationship. It is rare these days that you can find a Physician that will genuinely give you adequate time to listen and address any issues. My wife and I are very happy with Dr. Compton and would recommend him enthusiastically.

I don't think that it's a good fit with me and this provider. I've gone for a few appointments and it always feels like he's reading off a 50-minute script and not actually listening to me, even if the purpose of the appointment is just a prescription refill. He also said some things that felt shaming about my weight and about alcohol use (I drink 3 drinks per week, for reference, and he said that any amount of alcohol can cause cancer and to just avoid it altogether - even if that's true, that's not a great way to phrase it). The last visit he also tried to sell me on a cosmetic procedure that felt very snake oil-ish. I will be looking for a new provider as I'd rather go to another provider who listens better.
