Richard Marks, MD, FACS, is an experienced Fellowship-Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in disorders of the foot and ankle. Dr. Marks is board certified in Orthopaedic Surgery and has been practicing since 1995. His philosophy is that patient-centered care is key to a successful relationship with patients, and he stresses empathy, education, and shared decision making with all of his patients. Dr. Marks was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A graduate of Haverford College, he received his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College. He completed an internship in General Surgery and his residency in Orthopaedic Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. Dr. Marks completed his Orthopaedic Surgery Foot & Ankle Fellowship at Union Memorial Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. Dr. Marks has extensive clinical and research experience in academic medicine. He was the Director of the Foot and Ankle Division at Dartmouth Medical School. He also served as Professor and Director of Foot & Ankle Surgery at the Medical College of Wisconsin as well as Professor and Chairman of Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of South Alabama. He has edited or co-edited 3 textbooks, authored or co-authored 80 articles, book chapters and reviews, and has presented over 200 academic and research presentations. He is recognized nationally and internationally as a thought leader on treatment of foot and ankle disorders. In his free time, Dr. Marks enjoys spending time with his wife, April, and their children. He is active in racquet sports, golf, and can often be found hunting upland birds with his Chesapeake Bay Retriever, Laney, and his English Cocker Spaniel, Poppy. He also enjoys giving back to his community in a variety of ways, including coaching young golfers at the First Tee of Aiken.
