Dr. Robert Goldman J.D., Psy.D. is the Supervising Psychologist of the Suffolk County Riverhead Jail, having formerly served as the supervising psychologist for the Suffolk County Probation Department. Dr. Goldman's first professional experience after law school was working for Manhattan attorney Jack Littman as an associate in his criminal defense practice. He later worked for Suffolk County Legal Aid as a staff attorney in the Criminal Bureau. He then started his own practice, engaging in various forms of litigation. Subsequently, he was appointed to the Law Guardian Panel, where he discovered his true passion for helping children. This led him to attend Hofstra University, where he earned his doctorate in Clinical Psychology with a specialization in School/Community Psychology. Dr. Goldman develops programs that combine his experience as a criminal defense attorney and psychologist, aiming to reduce recidivism and placement rates. He continues to maintain a private law practice and has expanded his interests to include alternatives for dispute resolution. In 2003, he developed the TASTE program-Thinking Errors, Anger Management, Social Skills, and Talking Empathy-which he implemented in the Suffolk County Department of Probation. The program has become a foundational element for future evidence-based interventions. In 2005, Suffolk County retained him as the psychologist for the Department of Probation. Dr. Goldman has also addressed the Suffolk County Legislature regarding current restorative justice interventions in the county. In just four years, the TASTE program proved so successful that the chief judge for Suffolk County's family courts mandated it for all juveniles sentenced to probation.
