My approach to patient care is rather simple, listen; engage; and educate. As a prior collegiate football player and life-long athlete, I understand the importance of getting people back to the activities they love.
I am a board certified orthopedic surgeon with fellowship training in surgery of the shoulder and knee & use minimally invasive techniques to treat rotator cuffs, meniscus tears, ACL injuries, & many more. I perform total joint replacements of the shoulder and knee including the less invasive partial replacements. The care of complex traumatic injuries, fractures & tendon ruptures, is a core part of my practice as well.
If you want to wait forty minutes to spend five minutes with a doctor who doesn’t make eye contact or explain anything, there are many good options. I LOVED Dr. Robert Purchase. I was super hesitant about finding a podiatrist, but after having on-and-off pain for a year, I decided to become an adult and make an appointment. For a lack of a more eloquent word, he was awesome. Thorough, VERY clear, and extremely witty, I now finally understand what's wrong wit my knee.
I will say the only annoying thing is you need to get x-rays, but you can get x-rays done at the same location and they will book an x-ray appointment an hour before your doctor appointment.

Dr. Purchase is a KNEE AND SHOULDER specialist. I was not diligent, and missed this fact when I scheduled him to take a look at my painful foot/ankle. He was upfront about this, and admitted that he was probably not the best guy for me to see for this particular injury.
However, when all was said and done, I walked away with what I think is a very solid diagnosis, a recommendation for a doctor better suited to my injury, and a nice Physical Therapy recommendation.
I put Dr. Purchase in sub-optimal situation and he handled it like a pro. If he helped me walk away this confident, I can only imagine that he is stellar when it comes to handling knees & shoulders.

It was disapointing that all the info we filled out on your form could not be shared with the check in or staff and much had to be repeated. Also, it would be nice if the parking was specifically noted on the follow up reminders, as this is a very busy area.

My visit with Dr. Purchase was great, he was thorough and gave me good recommendations on treatment for a number of issues I was having with my feet. However, when I arrived at the office, my first visit to this office/doctor, I was brought in for an x-ray which had been ordered before I even had an opportunity to meet with the Doctor. As x-rays are very expensive, I declined the x-ray until I had at least had a chance to discuss my symptoms with the Doctor. As it turns out, the x-rays were unnecessary.

Went to initial visit to see Dr. Purchase regarding shoulder pain and limited range of motion. His front office was pleasant and organized to start off the appointment. My appointment was for 10:00 am and that is the exact time I saw him. I found him easy to talk to and informative in a way that most doctors aren't - he's a good listener. He gave me more time than I expected and I found his demeanor to be outstanding. I like that he didn't want to do unnecessary tests and felt that we should start with PT and see how shoulder progresses - the plan I had hoped for when I went to see him.

Dr Purchase is charismatic, but I had a super short appointment and he spent it pushing towards a convenient diagnosis.
He pushed me (e.g. are you SURE you don't have pain here?) to show symptoms that fit, and when I didn't, he diagnosed me anyways.
When I asked if my symptoms fit my diagnosis, he said no, and recommended me some other doctors for a second opinion.
I'll definitely be getting that second opinion, and I'm sure Dr. Purchase is a nice guy and competent when things fit what he knows, but the experience was really unsettling, and my first with a doctor who seemed so unwilling to be straightforward with me.

My experience with doctor Robert has been very pleasant so far.
I am glad I met him through ZocDoc when I was searching for orthopedic surgeon. I have already had my knee surgery performed to reconstruct my torn ACL. The surgery went well and I'm hoping to recover soon and get back to my normal life.
