Getting to know Dr. Robert Whelpley

Dr. Robert Whelpley, M.D., is board-certified in both Child and Adolescent and Adult Psychiatry. He completed his undergraduate studies at the State University of New York, Binghamton, earning a bachelor's degree. He then earned his Doctor of Medicine from the State University of New York, Upstate Medical University, in Syracuse, New York. Dr. Whelpley completed his Residency in Psychiatry and Fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Rochester, Strong Memorial Hospital. He has worked with patients and families across the lifespan in a wide spectrum of settings, including inpatient, various outpatient, and emergency settings. Dr. Whelpley believes in collaborative care between treatment providers, patients, and families. In that frame, we can address the patient's problems as a team working together toward a common treatment goal. He uses talk therapy, including motivational interviewing, cognitive behavioral, mindfulness, and supportive psychotherapeutic approaches, in combination with medication management. This combination, sometimes in conjunction with a therapist, works on maximizing mental health and wellness.

Because we accept insurance, we can reduce out-of-pocket expenses and still offer high-quality care. You may not have any cost related to your visit with us, depending upon your insurance plan. Most patients pay a small copay per visit, subject to any deductible or coinsurance that your health plan has. The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services determines appropriate billing guidelines. These guidelines depend on the length of the visit and the complexity and severity of your diagnosis. For this reason, we need to wait until after the visit for the final determination. We then submit the claim to your insurance company. The charges are calculated based upon pre-negotiated prices with your insurance company. Your insurance company will then determine what amount, if any, is your responsibility per your insurance plan.

Wouldn't recommend. Waste of time. Wasted time when I could have booked with another provider and saved myself weeks of waiting. They need to be more on top of their appointments.
