What should a new client know about working with you?

As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I provide a treatment plan tailored to each individual. This can include medication management, psychoeducation, supportive therapy, CBT, or referral to a variety of other services as I strongly believe a multidisciplinary approach allows clients the greatest opportunity to heal.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Step 1) The Initial Assessment: We would be conducting a comprehensive psychiatric evaluation, which includes gathering information about the client’s mental health history, current symptoms, and overall health status. Step 2) Diagnosis: Based on the assessment, the PMHNP diagnoses any mental health conditions using DSM-5 criteria and may also identify other health issues that could be contributing to the client’s mental health. Step 3) Treatment Planning: Working directly with you, we will develop a personalized treatment plan. This plan may include medication management, psychotherapy, lifestyle changes, and other interventions tailored to the client’s needs. Step 4) Implementation: This involves putting into action the treatment plan, which may involve prescribing medications, providing therapy, and coordinating care with other health professionals. Step 5) Monitoring and Follow-Up: We will continue to meet to assess progress, adjusts the treatment plan as necessary, and provide ongoing support to help the client manage their mental health. Step 6) Education and Advocacy: We'll continually educate the client about their conditions, treatment options, and self-care strategies.
