'My name is Roberta Ackom, and I’m a certified nurse-midwife and women’s health nurse practitioner with a background in maternal health and education. Throughout my training and professional development, I’ve had the opportunity to work in a variety of clinical settings—from major military medical centers to hospitals serving underserved communities in the U.S. Virgin Islands. These experiences deepened my ability to provide compassionate care across diverse populations.
I’ve also had the privilege of guiding future healthcare providers, helping them bridge the gap between classroom learning and real-life practice. My foundation in midwifery began in the labor and delivery unit, where I learned the importance of patient-centered care, teamwork, and adaptability. As a first-generation Ghanaian American, born in the U.S. but raised partially in Ghana , I carry a rich cultural perspective that shapes how I connect with others and serve my community. Outside of my work, I enjoy traveling, dancing to Afrobeats, discovering new foods, spending time with loved ones, and getting lost in a good book. These personal joys keep me grounded and continue to inspire my work in women's health and wellness.
