Roland is first and foremost a chemist by training, with a wealth of knowledge in DNA purification of medical devices. He holds a Bachelor's degree from the University of Douala and a Master's degree from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Additionally, he earned his Master's in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington (UTA), where he became a board-certified psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner. As a member of many professional organizations, he has an unquenchable thirst for learning and a constant quest for the newest treatment modalities. Above all, he is passionate about the practice of psychiatry and is fully devoted to the well-being of his patients. Mental health is personal to me, to say the least.
For the past five years that your friends, families, neighbors, and colleagues have been coming to us, we've worked together to manage their symptoms of DEPRESSION, ANXIETY, BIPOLAR, PANIC ATTACK, PTSD, OCD, AND DEPENDENCE TO SUBSTANCES, just to name a few. Give us a chance to do the same for you. We'll care for you as we would our family members. We'll get to know you as the person you truly are and not just as a number. What should a new client know about working with you?
Practicing psychiatry is a passion that brings joy into my life. There's no greater satisfaction than seeing patients better engage with their family and friends after being under our care. The key to this successful therapeutic relationship has been working together to achieve your goals by carefully LISTENING to your concerns and needs in a safe, nonjudgemental environment. Over the years, many have shared they didn't feel their doctor was listening. WE HEAR YOU! Smart Psychiatric Management comes in as a tentative, unscripted solution and a path to help you reclaim your brain.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Our initial visit takes about an hour, if not a little more. This is more like a conversation on how mental illness has affected you as an individual, your job, your daily routine and your relationships with friends and family. We will dig deep into a full psychiatric evaluation beyond the reason for your visit, just to make sure no stone if left unturned. At Smart Psychiatric Management, we are fully devoted to COMPREHENSIVE CARE, and so, collaborating with your Primary Care Provider "PCP," and ordering baseline bloodwork, are crucial steps in monitoring you for any potential unpleasant side effect of weight gain, or metabolic syndrome from psychotropic medicines.
To keep up with the treatment plan and for a better communication of your needs, we encourage patients to CREATE A PORTAL and to take time to fill out the "bothersome initial visit paperwork" yes we know, as thoughtfully and truthfully as possible. Give us your full history and medication list, past or current, so we don't repeat past mistakes. Educating patients on their diagnoses and treatment plan is our priority. This will be an ongoing process throughout your treatment as a member of Smart Psychiatric Management family. He was very genuine in my concerns, when I had expressed all that was going on that day in my life. I actually felt heard & not just another patient being seen by another Dr. Very knowledgeable in all aspects of my medications, possible treatment plans & educated me in MY choices. He was very kind right from the very start. I had a couple of questions and both time (one call at 10:00 p.m.) he answered both and was nice and willing to answer them. He respected and honored my requests. I’ve had numerous appointments with several doctors, mostly Nurse Practitioners and he was by far the best, unlike any of them. Prior to seeing Roland, I was struggling and had no idea anything was even wrong. A friend of mine referred me to him to be evaluated and I tell you! He spoke about my symptoms as if he knew me before. He started me on a medication that ever since changed my life. I am not big at writing reviews, but I figure this might help someone as it did me.
