“I was extremely late as I got off the bus at the wrong place. I'm always early so I was wasting time looking in windows taking pictures of cloths, when I looked up and saw 660 Madison OHNO i called the office to tell them I'd be late. I got a cab to bring me 20 blocks away to 274. So embarrassed but when I entered the doctor's office Dr. Romi greeted me as if all was well. I was speechless at first but then I noticed he was reading my medication list as if he had seen it many times before impressive to say the least. Dr. Romi was great trying to find out all he had time left to ask me questions about. Great visit.”

Getting to know Dr. Romi Lyallpuri

*After booking, you will receive a link via IntakeQ to complete required intake forms prior to your appointment.* I am a board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioner with extensive experience in outpatient, community, and inpatient settings. My educational foundation includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from The City College of New York, a Master of Science in Nursing, and a Doctor of Psychiatric Mental Health Nursing from Columbia University School of Nursing. Before transitioning into my role as a nurse practitioner, I worked as a registered nurse at the New York State Psychiatry Institute, providing acute care and support to individuals navigating some of life’s most difficult challenges. My clinical focus includes treating depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, trauma-related disorders, ADHD, insomnia, and adjustment disorders.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I approach mental health care as a partnership, where your goals and experiences guide the process. Treatment with me is tailored to your individual needs and informed by principles of CBT, mindfulness, and brief supportive therapy. Together, we’ll work to identify and reframe unhelpful thought patterns, manage stress, and improve emotional well-being. I also integrate a trauma-informed perspective, ensuring that care is respectful and sensitive to your unique history and circumstances. My practice is built on trust, open communication, and mutual respect, creating a welcoming space where you can share your concerns freely.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Your first session will focus on understanding your story, exploring your goals, and developing a clear, collaborative treatment plan. Each session is designed to be a supportive and interactive experience, where we’ll address immediate challenges and build strategies for long-term growth. Whether it’s managing symptoms, enhancing emotional regulation, or navigating life transitions, my priority is to empower you with the tools and insights you need to feel better and thrive. I understand that seeking mental health care can feel overwhelming, but together, we’ll create a path that aligns with your values and leads to meaningful progress. I am deeply committed to reducing the stigma around mental health care and helping patients prioritize their overall wellness. My practice recognizes the profound connection between mental and physical health, offering a whole-person approach that considers every aspect of your well-being. I prioritize not just symptom management but also helping you rediscover your strengths and achieve a better quality of life. By fostering a collaborative, judgment-free environment, I strive to make mental health care accessible and empowering for everyone.
