About Dr. Ronnie Lichtman
Ronnie Lichtman, CNM, PhD, FACNM, is an Emeritus Professor and immediate past Chair of the Midwifery Program at the State University of New York (SUNY), Downstate Health Sciences University. Prior to this, she was the Midwifery Program Director at SUNY Stony Brook and Columbia University. She earned both her Doctorate in Nurse-Midwifery and PhD degrees from Columbia University. Ronnie Lichtman has provided pregnancy, reproductive, and sexual health care in diverse settings including North Central Bronx Hospital, Harlem Hospital, Planned Parenthood of New York, and Public Health Solutions in Brooklyn, NY.
She has published and presented widely to both professional and consumer groups on a variety of issues relating to women's health and midwifery. Among her publications are the award-winning textbook, *Gynecology: Well-woman Care*, and a major revision of a classic pregnancy guide for women, *Dr. Guttmacher's Pregnancy, Birth & Family Planning*. Lichtman was co-director of the midwifery component of a Kellogg Foundation–funded project in Haiti: Sustainable Villages and Living Communities. This midwifery component focused on upscaling midwifery in Haiti with the ultimate goal of improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Professionally, Lichtman is deeply committed to excellence with compassion and equity in health care service delivery; anti-racism, diversity, and cultural humility and respect within the midwifery profession and midwifery education; and the reduction of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity.
