Getting to know Ruth Yamoah-Cofie
My name is Ruth Yamoah-Cofie, and I am a board certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. I help people who are struggling with mental illness. Finding the right mental health professional that you feel comfortable, understood, and free from judgement can be challenging. My passion is to make treatment for mental health illness more accessible like any other illness. My goal is not just to treat your symptoms, but to address the root causes that are contributing to your current distress or struggles. While working together, your care is holistic because your culture, experiences, values, and preferences are considered when we work as partners to create treatment plans that are tailored to your needs and goals. I treat clients 18 years and older, from a diverse groups and backgrounds. I see clients through telehealth in New Jersey and New York. I treat Mood Disorders like Depression and Bipolar, Anxiety, Pregnancy and Postpartum Mood and Anxiety Disorders, OCD, Panic attacks, ADHD and more. I accept insurance, cash, credit cards, Zelle, and sliding scale for those who qualify.
The care is integrative because it will extend beyond medication management to include essential lifestyle elements of: sleep, healthy nutrition, exercise, maintaining healthy relationships, social, physical, and spiritual aspects of yourself to cultivate wellness. Whether you are looking have a new psychiatric evaluation; get second opinion because you continue to struggle despite treatment; or get evaluation of your current medication regimen, I am here when you are ready to be your partner on your journey back to wellness.
What should a new client know about working with you?
Welcome! As a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and a Certified Perinatal Mental Health provider, I have advance training to treat mental illness. I am able to asses, diagnose, and manage psychiatric illnesses. My style of practice is holistic, collaborative and integrative. In simple terms, we are partners. We will look at the different aspects of you like your physical, social, spiritual, experiences and how they shape you as an individual. Care is integrative because it will include important lifestyle elements of: sleep, nutrition, exercise, healthy relationships to cultivate wellness. The communication is expected to be respectful, honest, open-minded, and judgement free on both sides. I will aim to make you comfortable so you can just be yourself and work towards a better you, tomorrow.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
Starting from our first visit, you can expect me to put forth my best professional abilities and I will expect you to be an active participant on your journey to wellness. The initial psychiatric evaluation ( 60 mins ) focuses on your unique journey , symptoms, goals that will guide the treatment plan we create together. Follow-up appointment ( 30 mins) frequencies are personalized to assess treatment plans, progress, and other issues that arise. Improvement rates varies and also depends on your level of motivation. I hope to create an environment in which respect, transparency, and trust is reciprocated so you can be yourself and free from judgement.
