I was referred by a friend. She had the same surgery that I have to have. She said she didn't haveany problems after the surgery. I was a little worried, because I had heard so many stories about Carpal Tunnel surgery.

About Dr. Ryan Jander

Dr. Jander believes in a team approach to patient care. This team includes the physician, his staff, and, most importantly, the patient. This collaborative team approach, Dr. Jander feels, is the best way to achieve the patient’s goals. Factors to consider include restoring function, pain relief, improving quality of life, and returning to sports activities. Most orthopaedic injuries when correctly diagnosed can be treated without surgical intervention. When certain conditions necessitate surgery, Dr. Jander has both the experience and specialty training that translate into excellent patient outcomes. Realizing that surgery can be a worrisome experience, Dr. Jander takes the time to answer all of his patients’ questions. Thoroughly explaining the process, the expectations, and the time for recovery is the best way, Dr. Jander believes, to make his patients feel comfortable. With over 15 years of experience, Dr. Jander is double board certified by both the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons as well as the American Society for Surgery of the Hand. A graduate of Washington and Lee University, he attended New Jersey Medical School where he earned his M.D. in 2000. He completed his general surgery internship and orthopaedic surgery residency at St. Luke’s-Roosevelt Hospital in New York City. After residency, Dr. Jander continued his training in hand and upper extremity surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. He moved to the Washington D.C. area after training where he has been practicing ever since. In addition to his clinical practice, as a part of Medstar Orthopaedics Dr. Jander participates in education and community outreach initiatives. He teaches Georgetown University orthopaedic residents and leads community talks about topics ranging from shoulder pain to sports injuries of the hand; Dr. Jander feels this is an important duty as a specialist physician. He has multiple publications in the peer reviewed literature including a book chapter on arthroscopic ganglion excision as well as a review on post-surgical rehabilitation of biceps and triceps injuries. Dr. Jander is a sports enthusiast who has played on teams his entire life; he understands the importance of an active lifestyle. He played football throughout high school and all four years at the collegiate level. He played rugby in medical school where he served as the team captain. Dr. Jander feels particularly empathetic with his patients as he has sustained many of the injuries that he treats today. He understands the importance of getting back to life.

Very professional. Very thorough. So much so that it made the overly long office wait time acceptable.

My appointment was earlier in the day around 9:20a so the waiting room was pretty empty, save a couple other folks. Since I checked in prior to arriving, that part was easy. I was called back into the office within 10mins of sitting down and saw the Dr. Jander himself within 10 mins of going back into the room. He was courteous, listened to my ailments and was assuring throughout the appointment. I felt taken care of. I suggest coming earlier because when I left around 10:15a, the waiting room was full.

Very nice. Takes his time to listen and examine you so that the proper method of treatment is made. Even though it was a longer than expected wait time, I do understand if someone comes in with an emergency need.

My appointment was for 9:45am. I was not seen until 11:50am. The staff was too busy chatting loudly to see patients. The doctor looked at my hand and said to schedule surgery. No x-rays were taken and he never even touchedthe problem hand. I sure do hope his crystal ball is working. Was also told someone would contact me to schedule a surgery date. It has been over a week and still have not been contacted????? The only process that was done on time was the processing of my copay.

I really like Dr. Jander but the wait time is maddening. Be prepared for your office visit to take 1 - 2 hours. Bring a book because I am pretty sure they don't have free internet. There was a huge mixup getting test results to the office. I am not sure who was at fault, the sending or receiving office. Take your medical records with you if you want them seen at the visit.

Dr Jander was great!! The staff was just as great. Saw him last week for the initial consultation for my severe carpal tunnel syndrome. He was great, very nice and informative. I wasn't treated like a number. He was great! I'm glad I struck gold with this choice.

The wait time would likely prohibit me from using this doctor again. It was over 1 hour before we got into the room and then met with a few people before the doctor came in. The visit with him was maybe3 minutes. The entire process took over 2 hours. We have not had treatment yet so I can't comment on the quality of the doctor.

I liked everything but the wait. By the time I was taken to a room, had x-rays done and saw the doctor it was an hour or so after my scheduled appointment time. Once seeing him, he was very good andI didn't feel like he rushed at all which is probably the wait time. He took time and answered all my questions. He seemed knowledgeable and I would recommend him to anyone in the future. Just be prepared for a bit of a wait.
