About Dr. Ryan Smith

Philosophy of Care My philosophy of care is that the outcome of any healthcare decision should be based on relationships forged through mutual respect and trust between healthcare provider and patient. Family medicine, my specialty of choice, affords me the opportunity to build these meaningful relationships with patients and their families. As a physician, I see my role as helping patients achieve their health and wellness goals physically, emotionally, and spiritually. I have chosen to practice family medicine in the town where I live because I believe it is important to understand how people identify with themselves and others within their community, with their peers, and with their families. Why I Entered Medicine I chose a career in medicine because, in addition to possessing a true love of the sciences and a reverence for nature and how the human body works, medicine offers the best opportunity to live out my personal values. These include helping others in need and establishing relationships within the community where I practice to support patients in attaining their healthcare goals physically, emotionally, and spiritually. Education and Training I earned my Bachelor's degree from Muhlenberg College and my Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my internship and residency in Family Medicine at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. Community and Charity Involvement My community involvement generally involves volunteering to help with my sons' sports teams and after-school activities. Personal Interests My personal interests include spending time with my family first and foremost, exercising, cooking, reading, and traveling. I'm also an avid Boston Red Sox fan!
