Getting to know Dr. Saira Hussain
Hi, I am Dr. Saira Hussain, D.O., I am a Board Certified Psychiatrist with a subspecialty certification in Consultation Psychiatry. I am a graduate of NY College of Osteopathic Medicine, I completed my residency psychiatry training and fellowship at Northwell health Hofstra-Zucker Hillside hospital. I have worked very closely with medically ill patients in the inpatient setting for over 17 years, with special focus on depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, adjustment disorder, and coping with chronic medical issues. I incorporate medication management, various forms of psychotherapy including supportive, psychodynamic, CBT, and coaching into all my patient sessions. I have special interests in wellness, burnout prevention, nutrition, life transitions, women’s issues and relationships. My training in osteopathic medicine allows me to have a more patient centered, holistic approach to all my patients, emphasizing every patient’s individuality and uniqueness. We will decide together which therapeutic approach will work best for you. I am very much focused on creating a safe, welcoming and comfortable space for my patients to express their feelings, identify negative thought patterns and develop healthy coping mechanisms to better deal with their daily life stressors, so you will leave our sessions feeling confident and empowered.
What should a new client know about working with you?
During our first session, I like to focus on getting to know my patients first and getting a in depth sense of your thoughts, feelings, exploring some of the areas you want to improve in your life. We will discuss some possible treatment options that may work for you, including medication management and therapy. If medications are indicated, you can expect to understand why it was started along with potential side effects. In therapy sessions, you can expect to feel supported, and validated. We will go over some strategies and tools to put into action in between visits.

Dr. Hussain is an amazing doctor who is both intelligent and kind. Each appointment she has been thorough and made me feel comfortable. She looks at the bigger picture and the person instead of just pumping out medication with little care. I appreciate her compassion. She eased my nerves of taking psychiatric medication and I’m glad that I’ve taken that step and have a doctor I’m comfortable with.

I had a great experience with Saira Hussain DO, PLLC. Dr. Hussain is professional, kind, and genuinely caring. She takes the time to listen, never rushes appointments, and explains everything clearly in a way that’s easy to understand. She makes you feel comfortable, respected, and truly heard throughout the visit. The office is well-run, and the overall care feels thoughtful and patient-focused. I always leave feeling supported and confident in my care. I highly recommend this practice.

If you are looking for an easy prescription this is the place. She claims to specialize in PTSD therapy but when I said I wanted a few sessions prior to taking SSRI's she fully checked out of the appointment. She insinuated that I'd be better suited for a PTSD therapist. I mentioned I was looking to speak with someone on a weekly basis she said she could pencil in a 30 minute check in in 2 weeks to see how the SSRI's were going and another 30 minute check in 2 weeks later.
Pretty disappointing that she claims to specialize in PTSD therapy but just immediately prescribes medication and doesn't want to treat you if you don't immediately want a script. This is just my experience but I really hated feeling so vulnerable to someone who checked out when I didn't want meds.
