“Saketa was excellent! Used great active listening skills and I felt like I was heard. She was empathetic with me, and we even had moments where we laughed together through the appointment (when appropriate of course). I am so thankful I gave Lavender a try and I am looking forward to follow ups.”

Getting to know Saketa Polk

Hi, my name is Saketa and I'm a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner serving clients in Louisiana. I specialize in women’s health, anxiety, depressions, insomnia & sleep issues, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), ADHD, bipolar disorder, life transitions, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)/trauma, loss, grief & bereavement, and stress management. I’ve been in nursing for 9 years and completed my psychiatric training at University of Mississippi Medical Center. I’m passionate about destigmatizing mental healthcare, and together with my colleagues at Lavender Psychiatry, I’m on a mission to create a world where feelings are felt, respected and cared for.

What should a new client know about working with you?

PLEASE NOTE, I’M IN-NETWORK WITH AETNA, CIGNA, MEDICARE, OXFORD, AND UNITED HEALTHCARE. I DO NOT ACCEPT MEDICAID. My therapeutic style is characterized by warmth, engagement, and a genuine personal connection. I believe in establishing a strong, collaborative relationship with each client, where we work together to make informed decisions about their treatment. My practice is inclusive and welcoming, embracing diversity in culture, background, and experience. I have worked with a wide range of clients, including students, parents, professionals from various fields, skilled tradespeople, service industry workers, retail employees, entrepreneurs, artists, and technology experts. I am committed to providing a safe and supportive space where each individual feels heard, understood, and empowered to achieve their therapeutic goals. I chose to become a psychiatric nurse practitioner because I saw firsthand how deeply mental and physical health are connected—especially for women. While working in women’s health as an RN, I realized so many patients were navigating emotional pain and mental health challenges without the support they needed. That experience lit a fire in me to be part of the solution. Becoming a psych NP has allowed me to provide compassionate, whole-person care and help bridge the gap between mental and physical wellness in a way that truly changes lives. Starting treatment can be a scary and intimidating process, I’ve successfully treated many people who are new to psychiatric care.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Booking Process: Request your appointment time on Zocdoc. My office will email you an online intake form to ensure I’m able to help you. If we’re a fit, we’ll reach out. I try my best to keep slots available each week for new clients. Your First Visit: The initial session is a comprehensive, one-hour evaluation which allows me to understand your current symptoms and difficulties, and learn about important aspects of your past psychiatric, medical, social, educational, and family histories. At the end of the session, we’ll determine the best treatment course. Session frequency ranges from weekly to monthly depending on the type of treatment you’re looking for. If you’re already seeing a therapist, I’m happy to collaborate with them while guiding the medication aspect of your treatment. However, many of my clients see me for both therapy and medication management. My practice, Lavender Psychiatry, is founded and fueled by board-certified psychiatric nurse practitioners who create therapeutic journeys that are kind, convenient and transparent so that people can flourish. We have a fantastic team that works together to ensure our clients are well taken care of. This includes our care concierge team who is available 7 days a week between your appointments, to help answer questions and assist with any issues regarding coverage and prescriptions etc. We also have covering providers in case I’m away and an urgent matter arises. I look forward to meeting you and helping you in your journey to a brighter future!

Don’t see your insurance?

It’s common for mental health providers to be out-of-network. Many insurance plans offer out-of-network coverage, so you may get partially reimbursed. Learn more

Out-of-pocket fees and assistance
  • Files your insurance claim: You pay the session fee upfront and the provider files the claim for you, so you can get reimbursed directly without worrying about the paperwork
  • Charges post-reimbursement amount: This provider will only charge you for the amount you pay after you get reimbursed from your insurance plan, so you don’t need to pay the session fee upfront
