“Going to Sama is more like going to the Spa than the Dentist. They go to every effort to make sure patients feel comfortable - Kayla made me feel immediately welcome offering water/tea when I arrived and a comfort menu to ensure a great experience. Both Pamela, who did my cleaning, and Dr R were really professional and communicative to make sure I understood what was going well but also very nice and patience to explain what I needed to work on. At the end of the appt Merssy took the time to walk through all the financials with me of what my insurance would cover and what my options were. I'll definitely be returning!”

About Dr. Salma Pothiawala
Dr. Salma Pothiawala oversees the skincare department as a well-respected, certified dermatologist in the New York City area. She completed her bachelor of science in Biomedical Sciences at the University of South Florida. After she completed her B.S., she continued her education and earned her master’s degree of public health at the Harvard School of Public Health. Afterward, she attended the University of South Florida College of Medicine, where she completed her medical degree. During this time, she became a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
Upon graduating, Dr. Pothiawala completed an internship in internal medicine. Her residency at the University of South Florida College of Medicine focused on dermatology.
She brings all of her knowledge and enthusiasm for helping others to Bethany Medical Clinic. She provides both dermatology and cosmetic medicine, giving patients the best of both worlds. She improves physical health and patients’ confidence with the services she supplies.

During the appointment, I felt hurried and did not have enough time to fully explain my concerns. I was unable to clearly express my symptoms, and the doctor gave me the impression that the visit was being wrapped up quickly.
At the moment, I have a fever and I’m concerned it may be related to the skin infection, but I realized I was not given any medication or clear guidance regarding the fever. I also wasn’t sure when and how to use the creams that were prescribed. I had to take screenshots to remember the product names—otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to recall them at the pharmacy. I wish the instructions had been provided in writing after the visit.
I was not expecting friendliness or warmth; however, since this affected my ability to receive proper care, I feel it is important to mention. If this had not impacted my treatment, I would not have brought it up. Unfortunately, I would not recommend this doctor.

To me, the appointment felt rushed, I felt unheard, my concerns invalidated by the doctor, and she offered no advice as to why I was experiencing some of my long standing issues, beyond stock answers that I get from Google. If the appointment I booked didn’t allow time for the additional concerns I made in my appointment note at the time of booking, then I would have appreciated an appointment adjustment, but for a first visit to a new doctor, it felt impersonal, insensitive, and I left very thrown off. I just received proper insurance, I wanted someone to hear my concerns that I haven’t been able to properly address/remedy in the past because of lack of coverage, and this was not it. Maybe another patient finds her to the point and time-efficient, but this was not a patient/doctor match for me unfortunately.

She’s been nothing but an excellent extremely fantastic superior doctor to me words cannot describe her character in full. Her assistant Melissa is phenomenal and very compassionate with. I love Dr. Salma and PA/RN MELLISSA.
