Samantha Mehlman, APRN

Samantha Mehlman, APRN

Family Psychiatric & Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
436 Court St, #7, Brooklyn, NY
Through active listening and thoughtful questioning, I aim to provide the highest quality care to my patients. I hold a Master's degree in Family Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from Stony Brook University and a Bachelor's degree from New York University. As a Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, my expertise in psychopharmacology is best utilized by taking the whole person into account. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to mental health treatment, and we will work together to carefully understand your unique struggles. We will then customize a plan to get you feeling centered and empowered. While I offer both medication and therapy services, I also enjoy collaborating with other providers and seeing clients solely for medication management.

Getting to know Samantha Mehlman

What should a new client know about working with you?

My practice centers around the trauma-related issues of addiction, eating disorders, anxiety, depression, ADHD, and gender / sexual identity. I use an eclectic mix of holistic, psychodynamic, and pharmacological techniques tailor-fit to each patient, combining medication and therapeutic listening and communicating to help clients navigate a wide variety of mental health issues. I also serve the NYC community by providing therapy in corporate settings for adults and psychiatry services for children in the foster system.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

Each of us is a unique blend of emotions, thoughts, and lived experiences. My job as a provider is to make contact with your uniqueness and to relieve pain and suffering. An initial evaluation with me takes up to 90 minutes, and it gives us a chance to get to know each other, assess your specific needs, and determine our plan moving forward. If medicine is indicated we will then meet for 30 minute medication management appointments, which will occur more frequently when initiating or changing a treatment regimen and less frequently once stabilized. If pursuing individual therapy, we will meet for 45 minute sessions. Ultimately, you are the driver of your treatment. I am here to support and guide along the way, with the goal of helping you to feel seen, understood, and validated in the process.
