Hello! I am Samantha. I am a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner, board certified by the ANCC. I have been helping patients with complex mental health concerns for the last five years. I have a background as primary care nurse practitioner for 20 years prior to obtaining my mental health certification. In my career, I have cared for patients aged 2 days old to 105. My ideal patient is one who is motivated for change and introspection and self reflection. In the rural areas where I have lived and worked, there have been very few options for patients to seek care so I was called upon to do it all. While stressful at times, my experience has shaped my knowledge base and passion for helping others. Despite being from a rural community, I have experience with patients of all races, genders, and identities. I am proud to share that many people seek me out because I make them feel seen, heard, and accepted. I have a special interest in depression, anxiety, PTSD, ADHD, addiction and bipolar disorders. Typically, I believe most people have more than one issue they need help with and many conditions overlap. I truly enjoy learning from each person I meet. We all have knowledge to share! I like to target the most pressing issue first, allowing for the patient to truly assess how medications and therapy are working for them before tackling the next symptom. Because of my background, I also realize many medical conditions can mimic mental health disorders as well as make the conditions worse if not well managed. I ask a lot of questions to get to know a person and what their life is like because every person experiences life situations differently and what works for one, may not work for another. Another strong value of mine is that early intervention makes a big difference no matter what the problem. Why wait until the situation is horrible?
