Getting to know Samurat Oni
"Hi, I’m Samurat Oni, and I’m a Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, or PMHNP. I specialize in helping individuals with mental health concerns, and I work closely with patients to assess, diagnose, and treat conditions like depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues. My goal is to work with you collaboratively, ensuring that you feel heard, supported, and empowered to make decisions about your care. I’ll be here to listen, answer your questions, and develop a treatment plan that fits your needs. Please feel free to share anything that’s on your mind, and let me know how I can help you today."
What should a new client know about working with you?
I strive to create a safe, respectful, and non-judgmental space where you feel comfortable being open about what you’re experiencing. I believe mental health care works best when it’s collaborative, so your voice, goals, and concerns are always part of the process.
I take a thorough, thoughtful approach to diagnosis and treatment, employing evidence-based practices and clear communication. If medication is part of your care, I focus on identifying the appropriate fit, monitoring effectiveness, and minimizing adverse effects. I also provide education and practical strategies you can use between sessions.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
I provide a supportive, patient-centered approach to treating ADHD, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders. During our initial visit, we’ll discuss your symptoms, mental health, medical history, daily stressors, and treatment goals. I use DSM-5 criteria and evidence-based assessments to ensure an accurate diagnosis.
Follow-up sessions focus on monitoring progress, adjusting medications when needed, and building practical coping strategies to support daily functioning. While my primary role is medication management, I also incorporate supportive therapy, psychoeducation, and goal-focused counseling during sessions.
All visits are conducted via secure telehealth, allowing for convenient and confidential care. My goal is to help you feel heard, informed, and supported while working toward improved focus, emotional balance, and overall well-being.

I would not recommend this provider based on my experience. During my first appointment, I was taken off six medications that I had been taking for months or years, with no tapering plan. While some of those medications may not have been appropriate for me long-term, the sudden change left me feeling extremely unwell for several weeks.
I also had significant difficulties communicating with this provider and obtaining medication refills. The first time my prescription was running low, I reached out for assistance and was asked who I was. I was fortunate that the pharmacy was able to fill my medication before closing, because I was close to running out.
Scheduling and follow-up were also very confusing. There were multiple occasions when I attempted to schedule appointments and never heard from the provider on the scheduled day, while at other times I received texts about appointments that I had not personally scheduled. I was even contacted once and told that I had missed an appointment, despite my understanding that it had been scheduled for the following week.
The final time I needed a refill, I attempted to contact the provider through text messages, email, and voicemail and received no response. Because I take mental health medication, missing doses can have serious consequences. I ultimately had to find a new provider on short notice and pay the higher fee associated with a new-patient appointment, which was especially difficult because I was self-pay and waiting to start a new job.
Even after changing providers, I continued to receive texts and emails about appointments for months afterward.
My experience left me feeling unsupported during a very vulnerable time. Patients seeking mental health treatment need reliable communication, clear scheduling, and timely medication management, and unfortunately I did not receive those things from this provider.

I arrived on time for my appointment, but the office was closed. I called the number listed in the app three times before I finally received a call from a different number. The person who called didn’t introduce herself and simply kept saying, “Hello.” She also seemed completely unaware that I had a scheduled appointment and told me she had already left the office and would need 20–25 minutes to return.
I waited, but after an hour, I left. About 30 minutes after our initial conversation, I called again to check on her arrival. She told me she was close, but she clearly was not.
Unfortunately, this was a very unprofessional experience. I never even had the opportunity to be seen and ended up wasting my time driving to the office. Based on my experience, I would recommend looking for another psychiatrist.

I made an appointment and the provider wasn’t there. No communication on their part before the appointment arrived and had to call 3 times before I got an answer. I wouldn’t recommend very unprofessional.

The care and professionalism I received during my visit was great. She didn’t just treat me like a patient, but treated me like a person. Her attention to details, clear expertise, and the calm, reassuring atmosphere reflected a major difference to my situation. I felt heard and helped in one visit. Thanks for her confidence, commitment and passion during diagnosis.
