Getting to know Sarah Ritter

I help people who are experiencing difficulties related to neurodivergence, including its mood and medical complications, as well as depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, PTSD, and C-PTSD. My ideal patient is open to new and emerging evidence-based treatments, functional lab testing, nutritional supplements, and the use of psychotropic medications only as a last resort. My goal is for my patients to find long-term solutions that reduce or resolve their symptoms, help them feel more confident, and live healthier lives. My own mental health journey is informed by successfully managing my inattentive-type ADHD and connective tissue disorder without the need for traditional pharmaceuticals, using nutrition, nutritional supplements, mindfulness meditation, exercise, and select nutraceuticals. I hold a Master’s in Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing from the University of Illinois, Chicago, and a Master’s in Clinical Psychology from Eastern Illinois University.

What should a new client know about working with you?

I take commercial insurance through Alma. I do NOT prescribe any controlled substances including psychostimulants (e.g., adderall, ritalin, concerta) or benzodiazepines (e.g., xanax, ativan, klonopin). However, I can and will treat adhd, panic attacks, and anxiety without use of these medicines. I DO prescribe non-controlled substances (e.g., lexapro, zoloft) as clinically indicated.

What is your typical process for working with clients?

I use a combination of psychiatric and medical history taking, diagnostic interviewing, functional lab testing, supportive psychotherapy, professional grade supplements, prescription medications, and behavioral coaching to achieve treatment goals. I use shared decision making for all treatment planning. We are a team!

Sarah is an amazing practitioner—I am so happy to have found her! She is very thorough in her approach and knowledgeable. She truly listens to me and understands my issues and needs. In addition, she is also very personable and empathetic. It is very refreshing to find these combination of traits in a mental health provider! I am relieved to have finally found the kind of personalized care I have been seeking, as I have seen my fair share of impersonal doctors over the years. It is nice to feel like I have a practitioner with my best interests in mind now, who collaborates with me on my care. She even seems to get my quirky sense of humor, ha. I really can’t say enough good things about Sarah!
