Physician Assistant (Psychiatry)
AZ
I'm Sequoia Askew, a NCCPA-certified Physician Associate specializing in psychiatry, integrative medicine, and women's mental health. My path to this work was shaped by something I kept witnessing early in my career: patients moving through a healthcare system that never slowed down long enough to truly see them. They didn't just need a prescription — they needed someone to listen, advocate, and care about the full story of their lives. That became the foundation of how I practice today. My background spans outpatient psychiatry, integrated family medicine, women's health, and telehealth. I've cared for patients navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, hormonal shifts, substance use, and major life transitions. I was trained to look at the full picture — mental and physical health are deeply connected, and I draw on both to help patients understand the root contributors to what they're feeling, not just the surface symptoms. I also incorporate ketamine-assisted therapy and integrative, lifestyle-focused care for those looking beyond conventional medication management. As a Black woman in medicine, I carry a personal awareness of how often patients are rushed, dismissed, or made to feel unheard. That shapes everything about how I show up for the people in my care. Outside of work, I'm a mother, a wife, and someone who loves to travel, be outdoors, and keep learning. Becoming a parent deepened my empathy in unexpected ways — especially for women silently balancing careers, relationships, and caregiving while running on empty. I understand that weight, and I bring it into every appointment. If you've ever left a doctor's office feeling unseen, or you're ready for a provider who will take the time to understand you as a whole person, I would be honored to work with you.
