I am a board-certified psychiatrist with a specialization in consultation-liaison psychiatry, focusing on the intersection of medical complexity and mental health. My journey began with a distinguished academic background as a Jefferson Scholar from the University of Virginia, followed by teaching in public schools in New Orleans and Charlottesville. I then served as Chief Resident at Virginia Commonwealth University Health Systems' Department of Psychiatry. I completed a fellowship in consultation-liaison psychiatry at New York University, where I honed my skills in treating medically complicated patients, particularly in women's mental health, psychodynamic psychotherapy, neuropsychology, psycho-oncology, and emerging psychedelic medicine. My experience spans both hospital and outpatient settings, including serving as a consultant in high-risk environments such as the Emergency Department at NYU Langone. I am deeply committed to reducing the stigma around mental health, helping patients navigate complex challenges, and empowering them to live more balanced, fulfilling lives.

My approach to care is rooted in empathy, openness, and curiosity. I strive to create a safe, nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. I view you as the expert of your own life, and my role is to guide and support you through your journey. Whether you are navigating the challenges of perinatal mental health, managing a mood disorder, or dealing with the complexities of a medical condition, my goal is to work collaboratively with you to develop a tailored plan that fits your needs. I often integrate psychodynamic psychotherapy with other approaches, such as mindfulness practices and medication management, to support a deeper understanding of your experiences. Above all, I want you to feel heard, validated, and respected as we work together toward your mental well-being.
What is your typical process for working with clients?
During our sessions, we will begin by exploring your current concerns, history, and goals. I may ask about both your physical and mental health, as I believe in addressing the whole person, especially when medical conditions intersect with psychological needs. Sessions are structured but flexible, allowing us to delve into areas that are most pressing for you. For those seeking psychodynamic psychotherapy, we may explore patterns in relationships, emotions, and behaviors, helping you gain insight into how your past influences your present. If medication is part of your treatment plan, I will work closely with you to find the most effective options while minimizing side effects. Throughout our time together, my goal is to provide a balance of guidance and space, fostering an environment where you feel empowered to share openly and work through challenges at your own pace. My hope is that each session helps you feel more understood, supported, and capable of moving toward a life that feels more aligned with your values and aspirations.
