Getting to know Dr. Shahnaz Malekan
Dr. Malekan is a psychoanalytically trained child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist. She completed her undergraduate and graduate degree at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). She obtained her Medical Degree, M.D. from the Sackler School of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. Her journey in clinical research led her to collaborate with Dr. Bessel Van Der Kolk at the University of Massachusetts' Boston Trauma Center, exploring the effects of SSRIs on PTSD. Her commitment to comprehensive care is reflected in her pediatric training within the esteemed Triple Board Program at Tufts Medical Center. She completed her Psychiatry residency at North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset, NY. She is multi-lingual, speaking English and Farsi.

The Doctor's practice focuses on supporting the mental well-being of children, adolescents, and adults. She provides a range of services, including play therapy, talk therapy, and psychopharmacology for children ages 3-18. Additionally, she offers psychopharmacology services for adults ages 18 and above. Doctor Malekan's expertise extends to child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychodynamic psychotherapy. She believes in collaborative and supportive therapeutic approaches, honoring each individual's unique personal history, providing insight, and uncovering connections between the past and the present. Together, she believes that doctor and patient together can create new, effective ways to navigate life's challenges.

I cannot say enough about my visit with Dr. Malekan. Rarely do you find a doctor who actually make time to listen to a patient, let alone answer all your questions and calm your fears. Dr Malekan has a wonderfully compassionate manner; you can tell she hears your concerns. Their check-in process was smooth, and she saw me right away. I am extremely happy with Dr. Malekan. It's good to know that there are still good docs out-there.- MHM

It's hard to find a psychiatrist who can both listen and act decisively. Dr. Malekan cares about her patients. She is considerate and very honest at the same time. She works with deliberation to establish a diagnosis and then to work out an approach to treatment that addresses the diagnosis. She is careful with medications, starting at low dosages and monitoring side effects before progressing to a higher dosage or different medication.

Dr. Malekan is really great. I enjoy the full 30 minutes that I spent with her. She is very understanding and helps me a lot. The medicine she has prescribed me is very helpful. I highly recommend Dr. Malekan. As well, she speaks farsi, which is wonderful.

Dr. Malakan is always compassionate, kind and always Listens to what you say and feel. I feel she is very accurate in pinpointing and diagnosing. Dr Malakan is a wonderful Dr and I am very glad I found her.
