About Dr. Shanice Mckenzie
Dr. Shanice McKenzie is a board-certified dermatologist and fellowship-trained dermatopathologist. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Society from Cornell University, followed by her medical degree from the UCLA/Drew Medical Education Program at the David Geffen School of Medicine. During medical school, she was recognized for her academic excellence, serving as co-president of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society and receiving the Glasgow-Rubin Award from the American Medical Women’s Association, given to the top 10% of graduating students.
Dr. McKenzie completed her internship in internal medicine at Olive View–UCLA Medical Center, where she was honored as Intern of the Year. She then pursued dermatology residency training at the University of Southern California (USC), serving as chief resident and gaining comprehensive experience in medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology. She returned to UCLA for fellowship training in dermatopathology.
During her residency, Dr. McKenzie was named Physician of the Year in the Department of Dermatology at LAC+USC Medical Center. She has authored over 20 peer-reviewed publications on topics including hair loss, hidradenitis suppurativa, and health equity. Recently, she co-authored two multipart continuing medical education articles in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology (JAAD), the leading journal in the field. Her research has been presented at both regional and national medical conferences.
Clinically, Dr. McKenzie has a special interest in alopecia and is well-versed in managing both scarring and non-scarring forms of hair loss. She is also highly trained in the multidisciplinary care of hidradenitis suppurativa, with expertise in medical and surgical treatment, as well as the lifestyle and psychosocial aspects of care.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. McKenzie enjoys traveling, spending time at the beach, attending live music events, and exploring new restaurants across Los Angeles.
