Dr. Boivin is a native Californian who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area and attended college and graduate school in San Diego (UCSD and CSPP, respectively). She also earned her PhD in Psychology from Alliant International University. Dr. Boivin has worked extensively with severely and persistently ill clients in all settings and levels of care (outpatient clinic, crisis house, hospital-based intensive outpatient, and inpatient). She has been practicing since 1992 and is comfortable treating a wide range of diagnoses. Dr. Boivin has training and experience in treating dual-diagnosed clients with co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse problems. Her practice is largely individual therapy with adults, but she also sees children, adolescents, and couples. Her treatment philosophy is primarily cognitive-behavioral, with an emphasis on working collaboratively with clients to set specific and solution-focused treatment goals and a long-range goal of improved coping skills.
